It's been a memorable week for Lionel Messi - even if he's seen it all before. The Argentine picked up his sixth Ballon d'Or on Monday, taking him one clear of Cristiano Ronaldo as the record-holder for the award. It was a close-run thing with Virgil van Dijk, though, as only seven votes separated the duo.Given that 147 journalists handed out nearly 2000 votes, that's quite something.Still, few could begrudge Messi victory when he produced yet another sensational year, winning La Liga and the European Golden Boot.

Saturday saw the first game at Camp Nou since Messi won the award and, naturally, there was a celebration to be had.

The Barcelona captain showed off the Ballon d'Or before the game after being handed it by his three sons.

It was a great moment and you can check it out below:

Barcelona did have a game to play, though, and they needed to beat Mallorca in order to return to the top of La Liga.

And they got off to the perfect start as Marc-Andre ter Stegen's quick goal-kick got past the entire defence and put Antoine Griezmann straight through on goal to chip home.

But the highlight was still to come.

With 16 minutes played, Messi carried the ball to the corner of Mallorca's box before laying it off into the middle.

Two passes later he gets it back, spins, and nonchalantly puts it into the top corner of the net from 20 yards. Incredible.

Here's the goal:

But as this is Messi, one great goal simply wouldn't do and on 40 minutes he was at it again.

Messi ended up with the ball just inside the D after a counter and, yet again, just curls it into the back of the net as though it's nothing.

You can see that one here:

Then, with eight minutes to play, Messi fired one in off the bar from inside the area to clinch his hat-trick.

As you can see below:

The hat-trick also means Messi holds another record - he's now scored the most hat-tricks in La Liga history, overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo's 34.

What better way to celebrate winning a sixth Ballon d'Or?
