Tyson Fury’s trainer Ben Davison has said Anthony Joshua’s performance against Andy Ruiz Jr was ‘like watching a poor man’s Tyson Fury’.In an interview with iFL TV, Davison said: “It was almost, not in a horrible way, like a poor man’s Tyson Fury… He can’t do it on the level of Tyson, but it was the tactics he needed to employ and he done it well."Joshua beat Ruiz with a convincing points victory to regain the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles.AJ employed a new tactic in the rematch in Saudi Arabia, keeping Ruiz at bay with his jab and punishing him with excellent accuracy. This is a similar technique to the one used by Tyson Fury, who uses his long reach to stop opponents from getting too close.

Joshua won convincingly on all three scorecards which shows that he employed the tactic effectively.

Ruiz struggled to get past the jab and was seen to be getting more frustrated as the fight went on.

By the last three rounds, Ruiz was far behind on the scorecards and knew he had to look for a knockout to retain his heavyweight titles.

But Joshua managed to keep the American-Mexican at bay to prevent another upset.

Joshua’s dominance was shown early in the fight when he cut Ruiz’s left eye with a strong right hand.

Ruiz struggled to land any significant punches and resorted to following Joshua around the ring, waiting for the right moment.

But that moment never came and it was Joshua’s new, lighter frame that gave him the advantage.

The Watford-based boxer weighed over 10 pounds lighter for the rematch and sported a new leaner frame.

This meant he could control the fight from the start using his quick feet and long reach.

Joshua is likely to fight Oleksandr Usyk next after the WBO ordered a fight with the challenger within 180 days.

It is unclear whom Ruiz will fight next, if at all.
