History will be made next year as England has been chosen to host the inaugural Ladies World Carp Angling Championships.

The international governing body of sport fishing, FIPS Ed, has finally recognised the importance of women's competitive carp fishing having awarded it a place on the international World Championships calendar. Once the possibility of a Women's Championship was confirmed, The Angling Trust submitted a bid to host the event which was recently approved by FIPS delegates.

The women's carp angling competitive movement began in 2016 when the first female international was held between England and Wales. That initial fixture evolved into a Tri-Nations event and then into a World Cup competition held in France earlier this year in which England finished third. These events, spearheaded by Carp Team England, were successful and led FIPS to recognise the growth and significance of women's competitive carp fishing.

Rob Hughes, Carp Team England Manager headed the host bid and ratification process of the event.

"This is a significant step forward for women’s competition and I’m over the moon that FIPS have endorsed the proposals and that we have won the honour of hosting the inaugural event," said Hughes.

The England manager also recognised how far the sport has come in such a quick time.

"When you think that this discipline of the sport is only four years old and it’s gone from not existing to becoming fully ratified at world level in such a short period of time, it is truly something to be proud of”.

The sport has reached World Championship status in the carp angling calendar in less than five years which reiterates that women's competitive carp angling is growing at an extraordinary rate.

The ladies team manageress, Bev Clifford, expressed her excitement for next year

"We’re really pleased that FIPS have recognised the importance of ladies carp angling as an international sport. We are also really looking forward to competing and we will be doing our utmost to win historic gold on home ground."

The Championship is expected to be held in September, however specific dates and venues will be announced in early 2020. Teams based in Russia, America and South Africa have already expressed an interest, and discussions are currently underway with broadcasters in regards to television and media coverage.
