Cristiano Ronaldo failed to finish in the top two of the Ballon d’Or for the first time since 2010 during last week’s award ceremony.

To make matters worse, his great rival Lionel Messi collected a sixth Ballon d’Or taking him past Ronaldo’s tally of five.

Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk beat Ronaldo into second leaving the Juventus man third.

As a result, the 34-year-old decided against attending the gala in Paris but instead showed his face - briefly - at a Serie A award night.

It’s now two years without landing the Ballon d’Or for Ronaldo and he may not win another one in his career.

And it seems he blames his move to Juventus.

He moved from Real Madrid to Juve in 2018 and, according to Spanish outlet ABC, he’s told several former teammates at the Bernabeu that he regrets leaving.

Ronaldo thinks he would have beaten Luka Modric and Messi to the past two Ballon d’Ors if he was still at Los Blancos.

In his 61 appearances for the Old Lady, Ronaldo has scored 37 goals and it seems he’s slowing down with age.

Also, the Italian league isn’t quite held in the same regard as the Spanish one. Certainly Juve aren’t exposed to the same media attention as Real Madrid on a weekly basis.

And his relationship with manager Maurizio Sarri isn’t the greatest.

Sarri is a pragmatic manager and has shown that he’s more than willing to substitute Ronaldo if it’s for the good of the team.

It’s something he’s done on numerous occasions - much to the annoyance of his player.

It may win Juve trophies this season but it’s not going to win Ronaldo another Ballon d'Or.
