Several superstars returned to WWE in 2019, and as we close out the year and approach 2020, it's time to look ahead and see which superstars could return to the company in the new year.

In 2019, WWE fans saw the likes of Goldberg return after two years away, as well as Roman Reigns making a comeback after battling against cancer.

We've already received an indication of what's to come in WWE in 2020, as it was confirmed that John Morrison had signed a new deal with the company earlier this month after eight years away.

Morrison isn't expected to be back in WWE until the new year, likely making his return at or just before the Royal Rumble, and several other superstars from the past could join him in returning throughout the year.

Here are five superstars who could return to WWE in 2020.

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey hasn't been seen in WWE since WrestleMania 35, where she lost the Raw Women's Championship to Becky Lynch in the triple threat main event alongside Charlotte Flair.

She's currently spending some time away from the ring in order to start a family, but with her involvement on Total Divas shows she still wants a future within the squared circle.

Triple H has said Rousey is constantly pitching ideas for her return to WWE, so we could very well see her on Raw or SmackDown sooner rather than later.

There are plenty of feuds for her to get involved in. Tangling with either the Raw or SmackDown Women's Champions or kicking off the highly anticipated four horsewomen storyline, a lot is on the table for Rowdy. She could return at any point in 2020.

CM Punk

CM Punk joined WWE's Backstage show on Fox last month, and while this wasn't an official return to WWE, it has moved him closer than ever before towards a return to the ring.

Punk works for Fox, let's be clear on that, but it's clear his relationship with WWE is slowly rebuilding. This is the first time he's doing something closely related to WWE since leaving the company in 2014.

Will this lead to a return in 2020? Possibly? Although the former WWE Champion has already turned down offers from the likes of Seth Rollins, he hasn't ruled out the possibility of bridges between him and WWE being mended.

There would be plenty of storylines for Punk if he was to return, but the kicker could be a promise of an actual main event slot at WrestleMania. We may, therefore, be looking at WrestleMania 37 for this slot, but that's not to say he can't return late 2020 to get things going.

The Undertaker

It's impossible to count out The Undertaker. Despite his age, he keeps coming back for more matches in WWE, and 2020 should be no different.

WWE fans last saw The Deadman at Extreme Rules back in July where he teamed up with Roman Reigns to defeat Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre in a tag team match.

This match was booked in order for Undertaker to redeem himself after a poor match vs Goldberg at Super Show-Down in Saudi Arabia in July.

During his recent appearance on Stone Cold Steve Austin's Broken Skull podcast, The Phenom said he's not done and that he plans to retire on his terms. Many fans will be keeping their fingers crossed for one final match at WrestleMania before he rides off into the sunset.

Goldberg

Goldberg is another legend that could return to WWE in 2020, as he had two matches in this year alone and left a lot on the table.

The WCW icon returned to WWE for Super Show-Down in Saudia Arabia in July, suffering a loss to The Undertaker in one of the worst matches of the year.

Goldberg would redeem himself when he faced and defeated Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam in August, but that wasn't all the action that took place that night.

It was at SummerSlam as well where he confronted Matt Riddle backstage, a confrontation which was later aired on his WWE Chronicle episode. This could be a match WWE asks him to come back for in 2020 if they heavily push Riddle too.

Carlito

Just like John Morrison, Carlito has been heavily linked with a WWE comeback recently, and his return could happen in 2020.

The former United States Champion hasn't been seen in WWE since 2010, so a return is long overdue, but there hasn't been any reports about if he has agreed to a deal with the company.

Like a few superstars listed above, Carlito could come back to WWE for one more paycheck before retiring since he is 40-years-old.

There are plenty of feuds for him, especially in WWE's midcard, but the most interesting feud could be with whoever is United States Champion at the time of his return, as that was the title he won after famously defeating John Cena on his WWE debut.
