Aaron Wan-Bissaka turned in the finest performance of his career so far on Saturday evening in the Manchester derby.

The Manchester United right-back was immense throughout at the Etihad as the Red Devils picked up a shock 2-1 win at the home of their noisy neighbours.

First-half goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial sealed the points, but it was United's defence and midfield that really caught the eye.

For one of the first times this season, Wan-Bissaka and fellow new arrival Harry Maguire looked well worth the enormous fees they commanded in the summer.

Wan-Bissaka seemed to be everywhere, nullifying the threat of Raheem Sterling and making a number of crucial tackles, blocks and interceptions.

After his performance, many have labelled the former Crystal Palace man as the best defensive right-back in the Premier League.

And Manchester United legend Darren Fletcher has said that Wan-Bissaka is also flexing that pragmatic muscle in training.

The Scotsman says that none of the defender's teammates have been able to get past him in training.

“He loves to defend himself. It’s refreshing to see, but he has to get better with the ball. Hopefully he is working on receiving and passing in training. I don’t see for myself that he’s going to be an attacking fullback who storms ahead,” Fletcher told Norway’s TV2.

“I was talking to some Manchester United players, and they were saying that no player has managed to pass Wan-Bissaka in training this season.”

“It’s as if he refuses to let them pass. He has to get better technically, but he is a fantastic fullback. When he gets better technically, he’s going to take his game to a new level. He is a fantastic defensive player and contributor for Manchester United.”

Frustrating opposing attackers and his own teammates, what a beast!

However, Fletcher does raise a valid point with regards to Wan-Bissaka's composure on the ball and attacking threat.

Right now, he is far behind the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold in those departments and he will have to improve if he is to be recognised as one of the world's elite defenders.

But given the fact he is just 22, there is plenty of time for Wan-Bissaka to find his mojo as a more offensive full-back, as well as being a defensive monster!
