It’s the final round of the Champions League group stages tonight and both English teams involved have yet to confirm their place in the knockout stages.

Can Liverpool and Chelsea join Man City, Spurs, Paris St-Germain, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona and RB Leipzig in the knockout stages this evening?

Red Bull Salzburg vs Liverpool - 17:55 kick off

Liverpool find themselves in the early kick off in the Champions League this evening, and although they find themselves top of Group E, and the current Champions League holders, they still need a point to guarantee qualification.

If they lose they will be out, unless Napoli also lose at home to Genk. A victory will take Liverpool through as group winners.

In the previous fixture, Liverpool beat Salzburg 4-3 at Anfield, despite leading the Austrian side 3-0 after 36 minutes. Although they have showed some serious European pedigree in the last few seasons, Liverpool’s record away from home in the group stages of the Champions League has been relatively poor, having lost four of their last five away ties.

Salzburg also have one of the most inform players in European football in Erling Braut Haaland, who will be looking to become the second player in Champions League history to score in all six group stage games, and already has 28 goals this season, including a goal against the Reds when they met at Anfield.

Liverpool don’t have any major injuries coming into this game, and will be full of confidence having kept their first clean sheet since September against Bournemouth at the weekend.

Chelsea vs Lille - 20:00 kick off

Chelsea find themselves in third place in Group H behind Ajax and Valencia, but only due to goal difference on the latter.

Chelsea will qualify from Group H if they beat Lille at home. They could also progress with a draw, only if Valencia lose to Ajax.

If Valencia and Ajax draw, then a Chelsea win will take them through as group winners as a result of their better head-to-head record with Ajax. If Valencia and Chelsea both win, then the Spanish side will top the group on the head-to-head against Chelsea.

Although they need a win this evening, Frank Lampard's young Chelsea side have yet to win at home in the Champions League this season, in fact, Chelsea haven’t won at home in the Champions League in their last five games at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s form has also dipped in recent weeks, having only won one of their last five games in all competitions, and come into this game off the back of a 3-1 loss to Everton on Saturday.

Having put so much faith in his young team this season, Lampard challenged his players to “make a mark” when they take the field this evening against Lille.

Chelsea will also benefit from the fact that Lille have nothing to gain from this game, as they will finish bottom of the group regardless of the result at Stamford Bridge.
