Liverpool knew that in order to avoid elimination from the Champions League on Tuesday night they would need to keep Erling Haaland quiet. The Red Bull Salzburg striker, who doesn’t turn 20 until next July, has scored a remarkable 28 goals in just 21 goals prior to this final group stage fixture.Eight of those goals were scored in the Champions League and the teenager has subsequently become one of the most sought-after young forwards in European football.A host of top clubs are reportedly interested in signing the Norway international, including Manchester United. The Red Devils are expected to table a bid for the 19-year-old when the transfer window re-opens.

Liverpool did, however, manage to keep Haaland reasonably quiet over the course of the 90 minutes.

He had a couple of opportunities to score but was unable to continue his hot streak against the reigning European champions.

And when Liverpool took a 2-0 lead thanks to Mohamed Salah’s remarkable goal, Haaland lost his temper - and his reaction is going viral on social media.

He asked for a water bottle, purely to smash it to the ground in anger.

Watch it here…

This is a lad who clearly hates losing - and that’s the sign of a top player.

Many Liverpool fans, though, were happy to see the smile wiped off Haaland’s face after his comments in the build-up to the match.

He predicted that he would score a hat-trick against the Reds in a 3-1 win for Salzburg.

A reporter asked the striker: "What's your prediction for tomorrow?"

Haaland the replied: "3-1 to Salzburg."

The reporter added: "And you score all the three goals?"

Haaland cooly fired back with: "Yes."

It’s all part and parcel of being a young footballer.

He’ll live and learn.
