Lyon booked their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League on Tuesday with a 2-2 draw with RB Leipzig.
The draw, coupled with Benfica's 3-0 with over Zenit St Petersburg, keeps Lyon one point clear of those two teams - avoiding a complicated process of a 'mini-league'.
If they'd lost at home to group winners Leipzig, all three sides would have been on seven points, allowing Zenit to progress on results between them.
Leipzig had led 2-0 at half-time thanks to two first-half penalties, one scored by Emil Forsberg and the other from Timo Werner.
But Lyon rebounded in the second half.

Houssem Aouar pulled on back on 50 minutes to set the stage for Memphis Depay to be the hero.
With under ten minutes to play, Depay muscled a defender away from the ball in the box, before hitting a shot on the turn into the far corner.
Lyon held out and secured progression into the last-16 - and yet the scenes afterwards weren't of celebration.
At first, it wasn't clear what had happened and fan footage showed a confrontation between the players and the fans, as you can see below:
Further footage revealed things, however.
As the players took in the result, a fan made his way to the side of the pitch and held up a banner that called centre-back Marcelo a donkey.
Captain Depay this and stormed towards the fan to confront him, prompting the fan to get out of there.
You can check it out here:
Pretty far from the ideal way to celebrate a win there but full credit to Depay for immediately defending his teammate.
Shocking stuff from the fan, though - the banner is ridiculous enough and the timing is even worse.News Now - Sport News
