The Premier League is often described as the best league in the world.

Sure, La Liga may have Lionel Messi and Serie A has Cristiano Ronaldo, but there's something very special about England's top flight.

It's competitive week in, week out and some of Europe's top clubs are on show.

With big teams come big players and the Premier League is full of them.

So much so, that the latest stats from Transfermarkt once again confirm that England's top tier is the most valuable in the world.

After all, it boasts the likes of Virgil van Dijk, N'Golo Kante, Paul Pogba and Raheem Sterling.

But who exactly are the most valuable players in each position? Well, Transfermarkt have answered that question. Check out the Premier League's most valuable XI below.

Goalkeeper - Alisson (Liverpool - £76m)

There's little debating that Alisson deserves his spot as the most valuable goalkeeper - not just in England, but the world. He recently won the Lev Yashin trophy, recognising his quality.

Right-back - Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool - £93m)

It's also tough to argue Alexander-Arnold's inclusion. But he's valued at a massive £93 million, which seems a little excessive at this early stage of his career.

Centre-back - Aymeric Laporte (Manchester City - £63m)

Laporte has established himself as one of the Premier League's top defenders since arriving in 2018. He's still only 25, so expect his value to increase in a few years time.

Centre-back - Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool - £84m)

There's absolutely no disputing this pick. Van Dijk came second behind only Lionel Messi in this year's Ballon d'Or and it could be suggested that an £84 million valuation is a little low.

Left-back - Andy Robertson (Liverpool - £67m)

Wow, Liverpool are dominating this XI. Again though, there's no arguing Robertson's place and his £67 million price is pretty spot on.

Centre-midfield - N'Golo Kante (Chelsea - £84m)

Kante is continuing to prove he's one of Europe's top midfielders and he's a key man at Chelsea. The World Cup winner was always going to take his place in this team.

Centre-midfield - Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City - £126m)

This man has been unstoppable since arriving at Man City and he's going to continue to improve under Pep Guardiola. De Bruyne may be valued at £126 million but to many fans, he's priceless.

Right-wing - Sadio Mane (Liverpool - £126m)

Mane is perhaps Liverpool's most underrated player. But his place in this team and a £126 million price-tag is spot on.

Left-wing - Raheem Sterling (Manchester City - £135m)

According to Transfermarkt, Sterling is now the most valuable player in Premier League history - and the most valuable English player ever.

His price of £135 million is lower than only Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, and higher than a certain Messi. Big things are expected of Sterling in the coming years.

Striker - Harry Kane (Tottenham - £126m)

Finally, another player that's not from Liverpool or Man City. Kane fully deserves his spot in this team and Spurs fans will be hoping he'll stay in north London for as long as possible.

Striker - Mohamed Salah (Liverpool - £126m)

Playing Salah is a striker's role seems a little cheeky on Transfermarkt's behalf, but they needed to get him into the team somehow. At £126 million, he's the joint-second highest most valuable star.

Given how Liverpool and Man City have been dominating the Premier League recently, it's hardly surprising to see their players making up nine of the 11 spots in this team.

The defence is made up primarily of Jurgen Klopp's players, while De Bruyne, Sterling and Laporte ensure Guardiola is also well represented.

Chelsea and Tottenham fans will also be happy that at least one of their stars has made it into the team.

Combined, this XI is worth a whopping £1.107 billion, proving once again, that England's top flight is the most valuable league in the world.
