Formula 1 chiefs have revealed their top 10 drivers of the 2019 season with Lewis Hamilton taking top spot for the fifth season in a row.

In what has become an annual tradition, Autosport asked each of the team bosses to pick their top 10 drivers of the year.

The individual results are kept secret so the team principals can answer honestly. Points are awarded using F1’s scoring system to generate an overall winner.

The nine team principals who took part were Cyril Abiteboul, Christian Horner, Andreas Seidl, Guenther Steiner, Otmar Szafanauer, Franz Tost, Fred Vasseur, Claire Williams and Toto Wolff.

The top 10 list featured four new entries off the back of impressive campaigns from a host of rookies, as Alex Albon, George Russell, Carlos Sainz Jr and Lando Norris all made the cut.

Charles Leclerc’s impressive first season for Ferrari earned him third spot, a movement of three places from last year, while Red Bull sensation Max Verstappen claimed second place for the fourth year in a row.

Leclerc’s teammate Sebastian Vettel dropped from third in 2018 to fifth this year after a bitterly disappointing campaign.

Valtteri Bottas jumped from eighth in the list last year to fourth this time around, whilst Daniel Ricciardo dropped from fifth to eighth after a poor debut season for him with Renault.

Ferrari’s Mattia Binotto did not take part in the poll, according to Autosport.

The Formula 1 team principals’ top 10 list is as follows:

1. Lewis Hamilton - 169
2. Max Verstappen - 146
3. Charles Leclerc - 124
4. Valtteri Bottas - 68
5. Sebastian Vettel - 58
6. Alexander Albon - 57
7. Carlos Sainz Jr - 55
8. Daniel Ricciardo - 49
9. George Russell - 41
10. Lando Norris - 38

Who knows how the top 10 will look like this time next year, but Hamilton being top and Verstappen being second would be a safe bet.
