So, we’re down to the last-16 of Europe’s elite competition - the Champions League.

It was a record-breaking group stage with a ridiculous 308 goals scored.

It’s also the first time in the competition's history that the 16 remaining clubs will be made up solely of clubs from the major five European leagues.

We may have to wait until February for the competition to return but we’re all excited about the last-16 draw on Monday.

As always, the teams that finished top of their group will face off against a side that came second.

While many of the biggest teams may avoid each other, we could still be treated to some mouth-watering ties such as Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid and Barcelona vs Chelsea.

But here at GIVEMESPORT, we’ve decided to look at all of the 16 remaining sides in the competition and rank them from worst to best.

To do so, we’ve not only looked at their current form this season - in both Europe and their domestic league - but also their chances of winning the competition come May.

Our list will no doubt anger plenty of you. But remember, football is about opinions. If you disagree, let us know by leaving a comment.

16 | Lyon

Sorry Lyon, but you’re the worst side left in the Champions League. The French side produced a superb comeback against Leipzig to reach the knockout stages after coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2.

But picking up just eight points from a group consisting of Leipzig, Zenit and Benfica suggests Lyon aren’t going to go far in this competition.

Domestically, Lyon sit seventh in Ligue 1, behind the likes of Rennes, Bordeaux and Nantes.

15 | Valencia

Valencia deserve credit for qualifying from a competitive group of Chelsea, Ajax and Lille. They won 1-0 away to Chelsea in Matchday 1 and 1-0 away to Ajax in Matchday 6 to seal top-spot with 11 points.

In La Liga, Los Ches sit eight.

14 | Atalanta

Underestimate Atalanta at your peril. They are the smallest club with the smallest budget left in the Champions League but adopt an attacking brand of football.

Despite picking up just one point from their opening four matches, conceding 12 goals in the process, the Italians won their final two matches to sneak through in second behind Manchester City.

They may have the budget of a mid-table side in Serie A, they currently sit sixth.

13 | Leipzig

Leipzig topped Lyon’s group with 11 points after wins away to Benfica and in both matches against Zenit.

They have one of the best young defences in Europe with the impressive Dayot Upamecano while Timo Werner and Emil Forsberg lead the line.

They may consider themselves unfortunate to be below both Dortmund and Bayern Munich in this list considering they’re currently above both in the Bundesliga as they sit second, just one point behind Borussia Monchengladbach.

12 | Napoli

All is not well at Napoli after the Italian club sacked Carlo Ancelotti following their 4-0 win against Genk earlier this week.

It was potentially a tricky group consisting of current holders Liverpool and the impressive Salzburg, as well as Genk.

But they emerged unbeaten with 12 points with the European champions only picking up one point from their two meetings.

Gennaro Gattuso will be the man in charge as Napoli look to go deep in the competition.

11 | Tottenham

Spurs recovered from their 7-2 thrashing against Bayern Munich to qualify with ease ahead of Olympiacos and Red Star.

With Jose Mourinho now at the helm, can Tottenham go one better than reaching the Champions League final last season?

The clubs who finished top of their group will want to avoid them, that’s for sure.

10 | Chelsea

If you had told Chelsea fans that they would be in the Champions League last-16 and fourth in the Premier League come mid-December under Frank Lampard, they would have been delighted.

They made life difficult for themselves but a win away to Ajax before they battled back from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 against the Dutch side at Stamford Bridge, saw them scrape through.

9 | Borussia Dortmund

It was the group of death and Dortmund edged out Inter Milan to follow Barcelona through.

Their 3-2 win at home to the Italian side when 2-0 down made all the difference.

This is a Dortmund side that are third in the table - five points behind Monchengladbach and don’t pose the same fear as years gone by.

8 | Atletico Madrid

Unconvincing in the group stages with away losses to Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus.

Diego Simeone’s side only scored eight goals in their six matches - four of them came in a pair of 2-0 wins against Lokomotiv Moscow.

Atleti are currently seventh in La Liga but they will still be a side clubs will want to avoid in Monday’s draw.

7 | Bayern Munich

Bayern are statistically the best side in Champions League group stage history, despite sacking manager Niko Kovac halfway through their campaign.

They scored a crazy 24 goals and won all six matches, conceding just five. Robert Lewandowski bagged 10 of them!

However, in the league, the Bavarians are seventh after four losses and are seven points behind leaders Monchengladbach.

6 | Juventus

The winner of Atleti’s group with five wins and a draw in their six matches.

But this isn’t a dominant Juve side under Maurizio Sarri.

They trail Inter in Serie A but with Mr. Champions League - Cristiano Ronaldo - in their ranks, you wouldn’t bet against them going all the way.

5 | Real Madrid

Real Madrid kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain. They followed that up with a 2-2 draw at home to Club Brugge - after being 2-0 down. They then beat Galatasaray 1-0. Underwhelming.

But a 6-0 win against the Turkish side, a 2-2 draw against PSG and a 3-1 win in Belgium saw them finish second with 11 points.

But Zinedine Zidane and his side just know how to win this competition.

4 | PSG

The side that topped Real Madrid’s group with five wins and a draw. With Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Mauro Icardi, the French side can score for fun.

They’re also top of the French league by five points - SHOCK.

Is this the season they finally conquer Europe? Getting past the quarter-finals would be a start.

3 | Manchester City

No troubles for Pep Guardiola’s side in the Champions League this season as they qualified from a comfortable group with four wins and two draws ahead of Atalanta.

But in the Premier League, they’re a massive 14 points behind Liverpool are appear to already be out of the title race.

Does that mean they will concentrate on Europe when it returns in February? Probably.

Can they finally fulfil their potential in the competition?

2 | Barcelona

Barcelona were actually pretty unconvincing in their Champions League group. A 0-0 draw away to Dortmund, a barely deserved 2-1 win against Inter Milan, a barely deserved 2-1 win against Slavia Prague and then a 0-0 draw at home to the Czech side.

But they rounded off the group with a 3-1 victory at home to Dortmund before a much-changed side beat Inter at the San Siro.

But can they overcome their scars of the previous two seasons when they suffered incredibly damaging defeats against Roma and Liverpool?

In La Liga, they sit level on points with Real Madrid at the top.

1 | Liverpool

The best side left in the competition are the holders, Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have reached back-to-back finals and are currently eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

When you consider that Klopp has never lost a two-legged European knockout tie at Liverpool, you’d be a fool to bet against them reaching the final in Istanbul.

So, the 16 sides left in Europe’s elite competition have now been ranked. As we mentioned, there will no doubt be plenty of you that disagree with our selections.

One thing is for sure, we already can’t wait for the return of the competition in February.

But Monday’s draw will certainly be intriguing and could dramatically affect which clubs are favourites to reach the final in Turkey on 30 May.
