Wladimir Klitschko is sparking speculation of a spectacular comeback and last night sent fans around the world into debate over who should be his opponent should he come back.

The Ukrainian sent out a series of tweets, putting the question to the fans to see who they’d like to see him fight.

At 43 years old it would be an unprecedented task for him to do battle against one of the current top dogs i.e.; Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua – the latter two being former foes, however, not impossible.

Klitschko fought Fury back in late 2015, but lost following a unanimous decision, marking his first defeat in over 10 years.

Wladimir then went on to face a hungry Joshua in 2017 in a highly anticipated bout in which he suffered a defeat by way of TKO; later that year, Klitschko announced via social media that he would retire.

Right now we’re all caught up, the question is; who will he fight should he return?

At 6 foot 6 and weighing at around 250lbs, the Ukrainian former champion is no walk in the park for any fighter, however, questions will surely be asked regarding whether or not he still has the legs to go the distance of a 12-round professional fight if needs be.

Wilder was a name in the hat in which Klitschko seemed to be interested in, and would be the only one still yet to face. Having already seen a Klitschko vs Fury fight, followed by a spectacular high drama battle against Joshua, it really does beg the question of what fans would be most interested in.

Joshua has previously stated that he is willing to fight anyone so long as it makes sense and fans want to see it – this would surely draw a crowd and get people talking.

Wilder seems the obvious fan choice, purely because they have yet to square up; both big hitters – Wilder especially, it would be a truly epic battle and a sheer showcase of physical power.

There is also a sense that Wladimir is merely teasing, fans will hope not – another question would be ‘WHEN?’ – Klitschko turns 44 next year and is not getting any younger, other potential contenders for a fight are booking up their diaries for the year ahead so it would seem he needs to get the wheels of the machine in motion if he is to stage a comeback so late in his professional career.

As it stands, Klitschko holds a professional record of 64 wins and five losses (53 of those wins via knockout)

Time will tell, as it always does, but it is important fans get their voices heard – who would you like Klitschko to fight should he make a comeback ?

Deontay Wilder?
Tyson Fury?
Anthony Joshua?

Could 2020 be the year of the comeback? The balls in Wladimir Klitschko’s court and only he will decide who plays…
