Arsenal hoped to build on beating West Ham by getting off to a positive start against Manchester City - they did anything but. It took under two minutes for Kevin de Bruyne to open the scoring at the Emirates, just seconds after the Gunners had a chance to open the scoring at the other end. A nightmare start for Freddie Ljungberg and yet another failure to keep a clean sheet. However, De Bruyne deserves huge credit for the way he took his goal. Gabriel Jesus sliced the ball to the edge of the box in the hope that the playmaker would be waiting. There are few players better in that situation and De Bruyne blasted the ball into the roof of the net.

Incidentally, it was the second fastest league goal Arsenal have conceded at the Emirates, after David Healy's effort for Fulham after just 51 seconds in 2007.

Raheem Sterling then made it 2-0 after 15 minutes - thanks to an assist from De Bruyne - to heap more misery on Ljungberg.

Even with City having been far from their best in recent weeks - going into the game 14 points behind league-leaders Liverpool - Arsenal fans still trudged to their seats fearing a rout.

It's little wonder why when the champions have such impressive firepower in attack and the Gunners' defence continues to wilt at every opportunity.
