It's been a successful decade for Barcelona.

The Catalan giants have won seven La Liga titles this decade and are well on their way to winning it again this season.

They've also won two Champions League titles and five Copa del Rey trophies.

Barca have had a number of world-class players that have led them to such great success in the past 10 years.

WhoScored.com have crunched the numbers and calculated their best XI of the decade.

And there's a few notable omissions...

It's important to note that only players that have made at least 70 appearances have been considered.

Goalkeeper: Marc-Andre ter Stegen (188 appearances) - 6.80

Ter Stegen has been selected in the XI ahead of Victor Valdez and Claudio Bravo.

The German goalkeeper established himself as Barca's first choice goalkeeper in the 2016/17 season and can now be considered one of the best in the world.

Since making his debut in 2014, Ter Stegen has kept 80 clean sheets in 188 appearances.

At 27 years old, he's set to be Barcelona's number one for the majority of next decade, too.

Right-back: Dani Alves (260 appearances) - 7.41

Alves was the best right-back in the world for the majority of his eight season spell at Barcelona.

He made 260 appearances for the club this decade, where he recorded an impressive 65 assists and chipped in with 12 goals.

The Brazilian left the club in 2017 but will always be highly thought of by Barcelona fans.

Centre-back: Javier Mascherano (271 appearances) - 7.09

Perhaps a controversial inclusion, Mascherano made the successful transition from defensive midfield to centre-back during his Barcelona stint.

He would go on to form a successful partnership with Gerard Pique as he helped the club to 19 trophies during his seven-and-a-half year spell.

Centre-back: Gerard Pique (373 appearances) - 7.13

Gerard Pique has arguably been one of the best centre-back's in Barcelona's history.

The 32-year-old can do it all as a defender. He's tall, strong, quick, is good with the ball at his feet and has good defensive awareness.

Pique has made 373 appearances for Barca this decade, with the club winning 22 trophies in that time.

Left-back: Jordi Alba (265 appearances) - 7.07

Alba has cemented his place as Barcelona's left-back since joining in 2012.

He's scored 12 times and recorded 46 assists since his arrival, a fine return for a left-back.

The Spaniard is the lowest rated outfield player in Barcelona's team of the decade but don't be fooled - he's still been among the very best in his position throughout his professional career.

Central midfield: Cesc Fabregas (121 appearances) - 7.36

Now this is a surprise. Fabregas performed fairly well for his boyhood club this decade, notching 31 goals and 35 assists.

But does he deserve a place in the side over Sergio Busquets? We're not convinced.

What's even more surprising is that he had a higher average rating than the other two who join him in midfield...

Central midfield: Xavi (225 appearances) - 7.30

What a player. Xavi was the player who made Barcelona tick. He very rarely gave the ball away.

He averaged a ridiculous 90.7 passes-per-game in his final six seasons at the club. He left in 2015 and will always be a Barcelona legend.

Central midfield: Andres Iniesta (319 apps) - 7.29

Statistically, Iniesta performed worse than both Xavi and Fabregas for Barcelona this decade.

He produced 65 assists for his side from the start of 2010 until his 2018 exit.

Lionel Messi and the rest of Barcelona's attacking players would not have been as successful as they were without Iniesta.

Right wing: Lionel Messi (437 appearances) - 8.62

Messi has recorded a ridiculous 8.62 average rating since the turn of a decade. That is crazy.

He has scored 457 goals and registered 162 assists in both the league and Champions League since 2010 started.

That tally means he's contributed to a goal at a rate of 1.41 per game. Insane numbers. That's why he's considered by many to be the best player of all-time.

Striker: Luis Suarez (230 appearances) - 7.66

One of the best strikers of his generation.

Suarez actually made Liverpool's team of the decade too, which is testament to how good a player he's been over the past 10 years.

He's scored 163 times and recorded 80 assists in 230 games for Barca this decade. That means, like Messi, he's average more than a goal or assist per game.

Left wing: Neymar (163 appearances) - 8.11

Neymar's average rating of 8.11 is second to only Messi and shows how important he was during his time at the club.

He netted 89 league and Champions League goals following his 2013 arrival and provided 53 assists.

It's not surprising that Barcelona have been trying to get him back after he left for PSG in 2017.

NOTABLE OMISSIONS

Carles Puyol - 7.04

Puyol was past his best at the start of the decade and only made 103 appearances before retiring in 2014.

Still, there's a case he deserves a spot in the team over Mascherano.

Sergio Busquets - 7.22

Busquets' omission goes to show that stats don't necessarily mean everything.

He's made more tackles (1115) and interceptions (806) than any other player over the decade.

David Villa - 7.02

Villa put together three successful seasons at Barcelona as he scored 48 times in 119 games.

He won eight trophies with the club, including two La Liga titles and one Champions League.

What a team. The fact that the likes of Puyol and Busquets don't even make the side just goes to show how strong Barca have been over the past decade.
