2019 has not been kind to Arsenal.

The Gunners faithful will be desperate to see the back of this year, but, sadly, 2020 doesn't offer much hope for revival right now.

Their whole season now depends on who they appoint to replace to ousted Unai Emery who simply couldn't arrest the north Londoners' alarming slide.

Mikel Arteta has emerged as the favourite for the post but Manchester City are going to take quite some convincing if they are to let him go.

The Citizens are said to be furious over the approach for the Spaniard and will demand a massive seven-figure sum for his services.

The former Arsenal midfielder does, on the surface at least, look to be the ideal fit.

He knows the club, made his name in English football and has learnt his managerial trade under the guidance of none other than Pep Guardiola.

He would undoubtedly be a gamble, but a very exciting one all the same.

It would be a real show of ambition for the Gunners to back a young, exuberant manager but it seems the Arsenal playing staff aren't on the same wavelength as the hierarchy.

That is because, according to The Mirror, the players would prefer the club move for legendary Italian Carlo Ancelotti instead of Arteta.

Per the report, the senior players at the club believe that Ancelotti's wealth of experience is exactly what is needed to guide the club out of the doldrums.

That being said, they will have to pull off something spectacular to land the former Napoli boss who is locked in serious talks with Everton at the moment.

Ancelotti's sparkling CV may never be matched, having managed some of the biggest teams and players on the planet and he would certainly be capable of mending the cracks at Arsenal.

The players approach to the process of finding a new boss just goes to show the fractious nature of things at the club currently, though.

Absolutely no one seems to be reading from the same hymn sheet and whoever takes over will have an almighty task on their hands to right the ship.

2020 could prove to be just as difficult a year for the faithful at The Emirates.
