Anthony Joshua has brought the feel-good factor back to British boxing after he reclaimed his heavyweight titles with a stunning victory of Andy Ruiz Jr.

The victory has given AJ more fans, silenced his critics and has led to even more potential opponents.

The heavyweight division is now set for a glittering 2020, with the likes of Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk all aiming to become undisputed world champion.

The sport’s other divisions also look set to have some massive fights in the new year as well, involving the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Vasyl Lomachenko and Terence Crawford.

It is not certain whether they will definitely happen, but here are the biggest fights that could happen in 2020, and let's be honest, they are the fights we really want to see.

Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder

Boxing fans were looking forward to a unification bout between Joshua and Wilder this year until fight talks collapsed.

Both fighters have since been accused of running away from each other, avoiding a fight which would see all heavyweight titles on the line.

Wilder must first overcome Britain’s Tyson Fury in a rematch of their first fight, which ended in a draw. That fight is currently scheduled for February 22, so a potential unification bout between AJ and Wilder could be on the cards for later in the year.

Having all of the heavyweight titles on the line would surely make this fight an interesting one, with both fighters aiming to prove their doubters wrong and show that they are the undisputed best in the division.

Canelo Alvarez vs Artur Beterbiev

Canelo Alvarez is now a four-weight world champion after beating Sergey Kovalez to get the WBO light heavyweight belt.

Alvarez is one of the most dangerous fighters on the planet, but he could face a dangerous test against Russia’s Beterbiev.

Beterbiev holds the IBF and WBC light heavyweight titles and is undefeated as a professional boxer. He beat British boxer Callum Johnson by KO back in 2018.

Canelo’s glittering record would surely make him the favourite for this bout, but Beterbiev’s undefeated record means he could cause an upset.

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury

A clash between Britain’s two best heavyweights would likely be a sell-out, especially if AJ’s heavyweight titles were on the line.

Fury has shown that he still has the ability and speed to mix with the best after he outclassed Wilder over 12 rounds in 2018, before the fight was announced as a draw.

Fury’s outspoken and outlandish personality would put into question how AJ deals with trash-talking, making this a fight not to be missed.

Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr

Crawford is currently the WBO welterweight champion, while Spence Jr is the IBF and WBC welterweight belt-holder.

An all-American clash between these two would mean the fighters’ belts and undefeated records would be at risk.

Crawford is likely to be the favourite as he has a record of 36 wins and zero defeats to Spence Jr’s 26 wins and zero defeats.

Vasyl Lomachenko vs Gervonta Davis

Lomachenko is seen by many boxing fans as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. The Ukrainian fighter has 14 wins to his name, 10 by KO, all with just one loss.

But Gervonta Davis would fancy his chances against Lomachenko. The American is an IBF and WBA super featherweight world champion and has now moved up to lightweight.

Davis must first fight Yuriorkis Gamboa for the WBA lightweight world title on December 28, but if he wins then a huge fight against Lomachenko could be on the cards.

Oleksandr Usyk vs Dereck Chisora

Oleksandr Usyk has now moved up to the heavyweight division after conquering at cruiserweight.

He is WBO’s mandatory challenger for Anthony Joshua, but boxing fans will wish to see him tested against an established heavyweight first.

Dereck Chisora is likely to be that man, after he said in an interview back in October that he wants either Usyk or Joseph Parker next.

Chisora is a seasoned fighter and will pose a tough test for the Ukrainian, but Usyk should have the technical ability to overcome Chisora.

Usyk is set for an intriguing journey in the heavyweight division as his reputation at cruiserweight precedes him.

Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury

Their first fight was spectacular. Their second is set to be the same.

Wilder and Fury both say the fight is set for February 22, with Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title at risk.

Fury will be looking to avenge the first fight which ended in a controversial draw, with most fans thinking the Manchester-based boxer deserved to win.

A rematch between these two would be huge, with Fury at risk of Wilder’s devastating right and Wilder at risk of Fury’s effective jab and move technique.

Whoever wins is likely to face AJ in a unification bout.

Leo Santa Cruz vs Josh Warrington

Warrington is the current IBF featherweight world champion, while Santa Cruz is the WBA super featherweight title-holder.

Warrington is unbeaten after 30 bouts, which is likely to make him the favourite. But Santa Cruz should not be underestimated. The Mexican has only lost once as a professional against Carl Frampton back in 2017.

Santa Cruz has improved massively since then and would pose a huge risk to Warrington’s belt and his undefeated record.
