This year has been a great year for UFC.

We’ve seen some huge fights, including Till vs Masvidal, Ferguson vs Cerrone and Holloway vs Poirier 2.

However, next year could be an even bigger year for the sport.

Conor McGregor is set to make a return, Khabib must retain his title and Israel Adesanya will hope to continue his incredible form.

With 2020 fast approaching, UFC president Dana White has lots of work to do to make some of the biggest fights in the sport’s history happen.

Here are the biggest UFC fights that we want to see happen in 2020.

Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz 2

These two fought back in November of this year with Masvidal being victorious after the fight was stopped due to a gash above Diaz’s eye.

But what would’ve happened if the fight went all the way? Fans will surely want to see a rematch between these two, especially as the first bout ended so abruptly.

Diaz is, of course, known for coming to life towards the end of a fight, a technique which could pose problems for his opponent in a potential rematch.

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor 2

The first fight between these two drew the most amount of PPV buys in the history of mixed martial arts, which means a rematch could be on the cards in 2020.

Khabib dominated the pair’s first fight, winning by submission in the fourth round and dominating every round before this.

But McGregor is set to return to the Octagon in 2020, and if he wins his first fight against Donald Cerrone, then a rematch could happen later on in the year.

Leon Edwards vs Jorge Masvidal

This fight would be a heated contest due to their existing backstory. The fighters ended up in a brawl in London earlier this year after their respective victories at UFC 244.

Masvidal is currently ranked third in line for a contest against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, while Edwards is ranked fourth. This means a contest between these two could decide who faces Usman next with the title on the line.

A fight between Masvidal and Edwards could be huge and is one that fighting fans would want to see in 2020.

Jon Jones vs Israel Adesanya

Jones and Adesanya have a bitter rivalry which has been escalating since their row on Twitter began.

Jones subsequently said he wouldn’t talk to Adesanya on social media until 2021, but that doesn’t mean a fight between the pair is off the cards.

Adesanya has lit up the UFC since his debut. The Nigerian-New Zealander is unbeaten after 18 fights, winning 14 of those by knockout. His record even includes stunning victories over Robert Whittaker and Anderson Silva.

Jones is the current UFC light heavyweight champion and has previously been hoping to move up to the heavyweight division, but a super fight against Adesanya could happen first.

Conor McGregor vs Donald Cerrone

The Irishman is set to make his UFC return when he fights Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in Las Vegas on January 18.

McGregor hasn’t fought in 15 months since his huge loss to Russia’s Khabib Nurmagomedov, but he is now looking to make a comeback.

American Cerrone will pose a stern test, though, as he has won a stunning 36 fights as a mixed martial artist.

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson

This fight is scheduled to happen in either March or April 2020, with Ferguson looking to challenge Khabib for the UFC lightweight belt.

While Khabib is likely to be the favourite, Ferguson will fancy his chances against the Russian as he has won 12 fights in a row to put himself in the position of worthy challenger.

It is now up to Dana White to get this contest up and running, one which would pit two of the UFC’s most in-form fighters against each other.

Justin Gaethje vs Conor McGregor

Gaethje is vying for a fight against the Irishman in 2020. The American has been calling out McGregor for the past few months, even calling him the next Ronda Rousey.

McGregor is currently scheduled to face Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, but he could face Gaethje after that fight.

Gaethje is the fourth ranked lightweight, meaning it would give Conor a chance to prove his ability and set up a potential rematch against Khabib in the future.

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Georges St-Pierre

St-Pierre is one of UFC’s greatest fighters of all time, while Khabib is arguably one of the best fighters at the moment.

A fight between these two would be huge and would certainly draw in a lot of viewers.

The fight has been teased in the past by St-Pierre, who has said that he would fight Khabib if the money is right.

Khabib is likely to first face Tony Ferguson, but a super fight against GSP could be on the cards if he is victorious.
