Is Mason Greenwood the future of Manchester United?

While it may be a little early to definitively answer that question, the early signs certainly show that he could become some player.

At just 17 years of age, Greenwood has set excited Old Trafford tongues wagging after a flurry of first-team goals.

He came off the bench to rescue a point for the Red Devils at the weekend and could find himself playing a far bigger role than he may have ever expected to this season.

It has been an incredibly rapid rise for the teenager who will be desperate to kick on and seal a place in the starting line-up.

And, if the man who discovered him is to be believed, it seems that the youngster was always destined for greatness.

"Scouts saw him when he wasn’t even playing; they were watching another player that day," Mark Senior, a former coach at United’s development centres throughout Yorkshire, told Goal.

"Mason just wanted to join a local team in Bradford called Idle Juniors, but he wasn’t old enough, so he was kicking a ball around on the side of the pitch, waiting for his sixth birthday.

"As soon as he was six, we made sure we had someone to watch his first game.

"The team he was playing for had never won a game, and I am not sure they had even scored a goal.

"Then, Mason scored 16 on his debut and they won 16-1. A six-year-old made the local newspaper!"

Talk about nailing your job interview.

Greenwood absolutely wrecked his opponents on the day and there began a meteoric leap through the ranks and into the world-famous Red Devils first team.

He will now be hoping to help right the United ship after a difficult start to their season.

United are still in with a shot of the gatecrashing the top four, especially with Greenwood's electric form upfront, and will be hoping to string a run of results together going into the new year.

2020 could prove to be the year that United finally turn it around, and Greenwood might just be the catalyst.
