Fallon Sherrock became the first woman to win a PDC World Championship match on Monday night. The 25-year-old played exquisitely as she recovered from 2-1 down to defeat Ted Evetts 3-2.It didn't go her way at the start of the match, though.Sherrock managed to take out 106 in the second leg of the match but it was Evetts, who was being booed by the crowd from the outset, that would take a one-set lead.Back came Sherrock, though, as she managed to put together a fine second set.

She came close to even more history when she landed six perfect darts midway through the set, but she was unable to take out 141.

The Milton Keynes thrower then had the opportunity to take a 2-1 advantage but saw four set darts come and go, which was punished by her 22-year-old opponent.

But Sherrock responded brilliantly again and managed to take the match into a last set decider.

She needed to break Evetts' throw to win the match and she did so in the third leg of the final set.

With history on the horizon, Sherrock held her nerve as she landed double 18 and sent the Ally Pally crowd into raptures.

Watch the winning darts below:

It wasn't as if Sherrock just scraped a lucky victory against a below-par opponent. She averaged 91.12, hit six 180's and was 41% on the doubles in what was a fine performance.

"I can't believe that I've made history," said Sherrock.

"I was inspired by Mikuru and I don't think I would have believed in myself as much if she hadn't performed so well.

"I'm absolutely over the moon - I have always dreamt of playing on that stage and winning on it is something I have dreamt of too but I never thought it would happen.

"I can't remember much of the match but the atmosphere was amazing. I didn't want it to end but I'm glad it ended the way it did with me making history."

Sherrock will now play 11th seed Mensur Suljovic in round 2 on Saturday.
