It was a bizarre match at Villa Park last night as Aston Villa beat a youthful Liverpool side 5-0.

With Jurgen Klopp and the rest of the Liverpool first-team in Qatar ahead of their Club World Cup semi-final on Wednesday, the Reds had very little choice but to name the youngest line-up in the club’s history.

And despite showing signs of promise, they went down fighting to a strong Villa side.

The away side actually started the game strongly but a Caoimhin Kelleher error from Conor Hourihane’s free-kick and a freak deflected cross off Morgan Boyes saw Villa race into a 2-0 lead in the blink of an eye.

Two further goals from Jonathan Kodjia before the interval saw Liverpool go in 4-0 down at half-time.

We wonder what Klopp thought of the game as he watched on in another continent.

What would he have said to the young players if he was in the dugout?

Well according to the manager for the night, Neil Critchley, Klopp actually sent a text at half-time.

"We had information from Jurgen Klopp at half-time to carry on being brave and carry on playing the way we were playing,” Critchley revealed.

Liverpool did just that.

In fact, it looked as though they would draw the second half 0-0 until Wesley bagged an injury-time goal to make it 5-0.

The scoreline certainly doesn't tell the full story of the night with the youthful Liverpool side having more possession and shots than Villa.

One thing is for sure, Klopp would have been very proud with what he saw.
