The youngest player on the pitch was probably the best player on the pitch last night as Aston Villa beat a youthful Liverpool team 5-0 in the Carabao Cup.The Reds were required to play two matches in less than 24 hours meaning Jurgen Klopp and 20 of his best stars were watching on in Qatar. And they would have been impressed with what they as a Liverpool side with an average age of just 19 years, six months and three days showed a lot of fight. But 16-year-old Harvey Elliott shone above the rest. The Premier League’s youngest ever player looked impressive throughout the 90 minutes and didn’t deserve to be on the losing side.

He was a constant menace for the Villa back-four as he cut inside from the right wing onto his magic left foot.

Elliott created five chances during the match which his teammates, unfortunately, couldn’t take.

But it wasn't just his display on the ball. Off the ball, Elliott didn't stop running, putting pressure on Villa's defence. Klopp would have loved that.

And now, individual highlights from his promising display have emerged. Take a look:

The Sky Sports studio, containing pundits Jamie Redknapp and Lee Hendrie - also analysed his performance at full-time.

Redknapp said: “Harvey Elliott – we were watching him and he's 16 years of age. From minute one he was trying to get on the ball. He looked the real deal.”

Liverpool manager for the night, Neil Critchley, also reserved some special praise for Elliott and revealed the winger is close to first-team football.

“He’s not too far away because he trains with our first team on a regular basis,” Critchley said at full-time.

“He’s had first-team exposure already, the manager and staff think a lot of him. I thought he was a constant threat all night, a really good outlet for us. But he was reliant on a lot of the players getting the ball to him and I thought the service to him was top class as well."

It sounds like we’re set to see a lot more of Elliott in a Liverpool shirt.
