Campbell says sorry for dismissal

Blackpool striker DJ Campbell has issued an apology following a moment of madness that has left him staring at a three-match ban.

Campbell was given a straight red card by referee Neil Swarbrick in the 43rd minute of the Tangerines 4-0 hammering by Wolves at Molineux, using both hands to push defender Richard Stearman in the face.

Responding on Twitter, Campbell said: "Peeps sorry about yesterday I've let my team mates & u guys down, I no I play with 2much passion but that's how I am wish I could take it bk (sic)."

It was an act described by manager Ian Holloway as "unacceptable" and at a time when Blackpool were already trailing 1-0, there was no way back for the Seasiders who capitulated after the interval.

For a player who had previously been booked just once this season, and whose only prior dismissal in his professional career was in October 2005, his actions were totally out of character.

Holloway claimed Campbell had had his Achilles scraped and been kicked "however many times" by Stearman, but ultimately was unable to defend his nine-goal leading scorer's response.

Campbell will now miss next Monday's Bloomfield Road clash against Chelsea, as well as trips to Blackburn and Fulham at a crucial time when the club are looking to stay out of the relegation zone.

Holloway, who will likely sit down with Campbell to discuss the matter once the dust has settled, said: "He's lost his cool.

"I can't defend him, and he didn't help his team out. Normally he helps us out brilliantly, but unfortunately he let us and himself down."
