We're coming to the end of the 2010's - and what a decade it's been.

We've seen the rise of the super-rich in Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, with both clubs being the most successful in their respective countries.

There have been three World Cup winners - all European - as well as first-time European champions in Portugal and a brand new competition, the Nations League.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid pushed on from a wild end to the previous decade to dominate this one - the duo won six of the ten Champions League trophies this decade.

But really, despite it all, this decade will be remembered as the one where two players utterly dominated.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo won every Ballon d'Or this decade except for one, in 2018 - and that was controversial.

They've shattered every goalscoring record imaginable and pushed the bar further than anyone thought possible.

And so it's no surprise that they are the two top goalscorers of the decade.

As of December 18th, Messi tops the lot with 368 league goals in the 2010s, ahead of Ronaldo's 335.

It's a surprisingly large lead for Messi - although, he has definitely gotten the better of his counterpart in league football over the years.

The Portuguese legend has 'only' won three league titles this decade, while Messi has won a remarkable seven.

And that league record of Messi's translates into another stat - the most assists of the decade.

Because, quite astonishingly, he tops that by a distance, too.

As of the 18th, Messi has 141 assists in the league - 11 higher than second-place Thomas Muller.

Ronaldo doesn't make the top six, which really does highlight just how incredible Messi has been.

He's the best goalscorer this decade and yet, somehow, still found the time to be the best creator, too. Truly sensational.
