Puma launch ‘gamer socks’ worth £80 in the UK

Puma, purveyor of all sorts of sporting goods and clothing, is launching footwear for video game addicts that cost a whopping £80 in the UK and $160 in Australia.

So, what does Active Gaming Footwear do?

They are “designed for indoor and in-arena use,” and provide “seamless comfort, support and grip so gamers can adapt to different active gaming modes,” Puma writes.

Other features include, “medial wrap-up grip in SEEK mode, wrap-up grip in ATTACK mode, and heel wrap-up stability in CRUISE and DEFENCE mode.”

Is this for real? Yes, Puma is actually stating these sneaker-socks have “modes” like a gaming peripheral.

Believe it or not, this isn’t Puma’s first foray into video games. The German brand made a pair of stylised boots for 'Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain'.

Of course, the world already has gaming glasses and gaming chairs, so what’s one more accessory?

Adidas, not to be left out of the ridiculous footwear segment, recently revealed their upcoming collaboration with Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.

Dubbed the Ninja Nite Jogger, this pair of sneakers features a mesh and leather combo in a blue finish that is typically associated with the infamous streamer. The sides of the shoe also feature “Ninja’s” name as well as “Time In.”

It is an interesting shift for companies who are starting to pay the world of eSports a lot more attention considering the lucrative prize money pool which now exceeds that of more traditional sporting events.

It’s almost impossible to say whether special socks or shoes will make you a better gamer, however, if you have the money, it could well be worth the investment to give you a competitive edge over your fellow gamers.
