Izzy Christiansen is expected to make a move back to the WSL from current club Lyon, the European Champions.

Christiansen first made the move to Division 1 Féminine in July 2018 but has spoken previously about the stiff competition she faces to even make the matchday squad at Lyon.

She told the BBC in a blog: "We have a squad of 24 players, 22 of whom are internationals, and every week at least two internationals won't even make the matchday squad of 18.

"So training is ruthless - you cannot give the ball away, you cannot miss a chance."

She is currently one of four Lionesses signed to the incredibly successful Lyon side with Lucy Bronze, Nikita Parris and Alex Greenwood also signed to the French team. Christiansen's contract at the French side will come up for renewal in the summer so it is expected that she might make her return to the WSL.

A move to WSL side Everton would be a return back to one of the clubs her football story began with as it was the first club she played for as a senior player.

Christiansen missed out on a place in the Lionesses side that finished fourth in the FIFA women's World Cup in France this summer and has struggled with a thigh injury.

The 28-year-old has been frustrated by a lack of game time which she says has also prevented her from being picked for the England squad.

"I need to be playing more minutes for Lyon before I can get back into the England squad and the manager at Lyon is the only person who can control that.

I've only played in six games this season, and all but one have been as a substitute so it has been frustrating," she said.
