Freddie Ljungberg's time as Arsenal interim manager will certainly not be remembered fondly by, well, anyone.

The club legend was well and truly thrown in at the deep end after Unai Emery's sacking, with the Gunners in free-fall.

Ljungberg wasn't allowed to bring in his own coaching staff to help revive a squad bereft of confidence and unsurprisingly, results have not really improved under his leadership.

Today's 0-0 draw away at Everton was his final game in charge and the baton will now be passed to Mikel Arteta.

But despite the fact Ljungberg only mustered one win during his time as manager, his efforts have been widely commended by Arsenal fans.

And it seems even some of the players are appreciative of the Swede's efforts, especially Lucas Torreira.

After the final whistle at Goodison Park, a camera appeared to pick up the Uruguayan thanking Ljungberg, with the manager then going in for an emotional hug straight after.

A touching moment.

Torreira is one of the few Arsenal players who can leave with his head held high during Ljungberg's reign.

The Uruguayan always gave 100% and despite being regularly exposed by his midfield teammates, he managed to show some form of solidity.

Under Arteta, Torreira will surely be the key man in midfield.

And the new manager will also hope that Ljungberg can be a key man on his coaching staff, with the Swede confirming after the game that Arsenal have approached him over a role.

Ljungberg told BT Sport: "I've been told by the club they want me to stay but I will have a meeting with Mikel tomorrow and hopefully it's a good one."
