Mohamed Salah was awarded the Golden Ball at the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup.

The Liverpool superstar might be experiencing his slowest season in front of goal at Anfield, but underrate the Egyptian at your peril.

Salah proved in Qatar that he remains one of the best players in the world and his form will be vital if Liverpool are to win their maiden Premier League crown.

And with the Club World Cup safely in their trophy cabinet and the Champions League hibernating until February, securing league glory is very much at the front of Liverpool minds.

So, it seems apt that while Liverpool were busy becoming world champions that their closest rivals - Manchester City and Leicester City - were slugging it out back on home shores.

Manchester City 3-1 Leicester City

Jamie Vardy fired the Foxes into an early lead at the Etihad Stadium, but goals from Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus ensured the champions were victorious.

And the result couldn't have been better for Liverpool, who now have the opportunity to extend their lead to 13 points when they play their game in hand.

Anyway, back to Salah who, fresh from hoovering up silverware, appeared for an interview on beIN Sports where he was informed about the result in Manchester.

Salah reacts to the result

Salah immediately seemed interested in the score, but when the host reminded him of how much that boosts Liverpool's title challenge, his reply was the definition of an elite mentality.

Per the footage's subtitles on Liverpool's Reddit, Salah responded by saying: "Oh really? They lost 3-1!? No, there's still so much time left, you know that...

"Sure, sure, that's a good day with Manchester winning...

"But as you know, last year, we drew two or three games in a row. This made it really hard for us, so I feel like we should focus on each match and see what happens."

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

A very professional and wise response from Salah, even if it was fascinating to see his surprise when he first heard the score.

Look, I'm pretty confident that Liverpool are going to win the league this season and a mind-blowing 16 victories from 17 games shows this is no ordinary team we're talking about here.

But if there was a scenario where Manchester City achieve the impossible and stage a comeback, it would be because Liverpool players became complacent.

However, the fact Liverpool have thrown away leads and lost finals in the past is actually a positive, because it gives them the muscle memory of exactly what not to do.

They just have to make sure that going 13 points clear with a win against West Ham United doesn't turn out to be unlucky 13. Even by Liverpool's standards, I'm inclined to think not.
