Frank Lampard took his out of form Chelsea side to face his former manager and current Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho on Sunday afternoon.Spurs went into the clash knowing a win would see them replace Chelsea in the top four but they went into the interval 2-0 down following an impressive brace from Willian. The second-half produced a couple of ugly moments, with Heung-Min Son receiving a straight red card for kicking out at Antonio Rudiger, and then the Chelsea man was subjected to racial abuse.Blues captain Cesar Azpilicueta tried to stop the game when Rudiger acknowledged the abuse, as well as when a bottle was thrown at goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The incident resulted in there being an announcement over the PA system at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to inform everyone that there had been racist abuse from the crowd.

Rudiger subject to racist abuse at Spurs

Rudiger, who recently returned from a long injury lay-off, lined up in a re-shaped back three against Spurs alongside Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori.

As you can see in the videos below, 26-year-old Rudiger clearly gestured to Azpilicueta and officials that he could hear Spurs supporters making monkey noises at him.

England's 6-0 Euro 2020 qualifying win at Bulgaria in October had to be stopped temporarily due to racist behaviour from fans and that type of PA announcement hit the Premier League again.

Following this month's Manchester derby, one supporter was arrested in relation to racially abusing Manchester United players Fred and Jesse Lingard.

Three announcements inside the stadium at Spurs (one as late as the 93rd-minute) reminded fans that racial abuse interferes with the game and that there's "no place" for it in football.

Hopefully the powers at be can find the idiotic fans who chanted racist abuse at Rudiger as well as the person who threw a bottle at Kepa.

UPDATE

Tottenham have since revealed that no evidence was found to support allegations of racism from their fans last month.

Spurs say they "fully support Antonio Rudiger with the action he took" and the club and police "exhausted all avenues of investigation.

"There is no evidence to corroborate or contradict the allegation," they added.

Meanwhile, Chelsea said: "We support Toni Rudiger totally and unequivocally on this matter, and as Tottenham's statement makes clear, a lack of evidence does not mean an incident did not take place.

"In responding to this incident, we must be very careful about the climate we create for players who experience and report racist behaviour.

"It is vitally important that we continue to encourage all players, whatever shirt they wear, to report racist abuse without fear of doubt or reprisal."
