Erling Haaland is expected to join Manchester United when the transfer window re-opens at the start of next month.

The Red Bull Salzburg striker, who turns 20 next July, could cost the Red Devils up to £76 million, according to reports.

Haaland has become one of the most sought-after forwards in world football following a magnificent start to the 2019/20 campaign. The Norway international has scored 28 goals in just 22 appearances at the time of writing. Eight of those goals have come in the Champions League.

The teenager, who was born in Leeds and is the son of former Manchester City player Alf-Inge Haaland, has been linked to a host of top European clubs in recent months.

But it’s Man Utd who appear to be the overwhelming favourites to win the race for his signature.

United fans were left excited earlier this week when reports from Norway claimed Haaland and his father were en route to Manchester from Stavanger, fuelling speculation that a deal was imminent.

However, it soon transpired that Haaland was, in fact, going on a Christmas holiday at the start of a two-month winter break in Austria.

But a move to Old Trafford still sounds like the most likely outcome for Haaland.

The Sun have even obtained information about the youngster’s proposed United contract.

They understand that Haaland will boost his wages by a staggering 10 times if - or perhaps that should be, when - he joins the Premier League giants.

He currently earns £20,000-a-week at Salzburg - but United are prepared to pay him an eye-watering £200,000 to become their new first-choice centre-forward.

Haaland will be able to boost his salary thanks to a number of incentives included in the contract.

He will earn more money by scoring goals, while there will also be a further financial bonus up for grabs if he wins the Premier League Golden Boot award.

The report adds that he will also make extra money for helping United return to the Champions League and for winning trophies.

But the plan is for Haaland to return to Salzburg for the remainder of the season, rather than play for United’s first team immediately.

He will then link up with his new teammates for the first time in the summer.
