Speculation for the 2020 Royal Rumble has already begun, and with the new year just a couple of days away, it's starting to heat up.

The Royal Rumble is always an important event on WWE's calendar as it's the show that starts the build towards their biggest event of the year WrestleMania.

The men's and women's Royal Rumble matches are so important as well as these matches will reveal the first storylines ahead of this year's WrestleMania.

The rumour mill has been turning regarding which superstars could be winning the men's and women's Royal Rumble matches in 2020.

According to Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue, via Cageside Seats, Roman Reigns and Shayna Baszler are pencilled in as the 2020 men's and women's Royal Rumble winners respectively.

Neither one of these currently planned winners should come as a surprise to WWE fans, as they're both expectedly to have a big 2020 in the company.

For Reigns, having him win the men's Royal Rumble match will be a way for WWE to book him back into one of the main title pictures for the first time in over a year

The Big Dog hasn't been involved in a top title picture since he relinquished the Universal Championship in October 2018 to battle against leukaemia.

Reigns has been on a steady rise in WWE since returning in February, and now it feels like the right time to put him back in the title picture on SmackDown.

As for Baszler, WWE has already begun booking her to eventually make the move from NXT to either Raw or SmackDown in 2020, and winning the women's Royal Rumble could complete the process.

The Queen of Spades lost the NXT Women's Championship last week to Rhea Ripley, but this, in turn, has freed her up to join either Raw or SmackDown in the new year.

The current rumours have Baszler wrestling against Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch at WrestleMania, and a pathway to have her in this match would be to book her to win the women's Royal Rumble.

We'll have to wait and see if Reigns and Baszler end up winning their respective Royal Rumble matches in 2020.
