It has been a blockbuster 2019 in the heavyweight division with Anthony Joshua dominating the headlines by losing and regaining his four heavyweight titles.

The Watford-born fighter was stunned by Andy Ruiz Jr in June, falling to a seventh-round stoppage before regaining his titles in dominant fashion earlier this month.

With Ruiz seemingly outclassed against a better prepared Joshua, there would seem to be little appetite for a rematch between the pair.

So the question remains, as it did prior to Ruiz's stunning upset, what does the future hold for Anthony Joshua?

A much anticipated unification fight with Deontay Wilder? Defeat against mandatory challengers?

The Mirror's boxing experts have given their verdicts, and it is not unanimously positive for Joshua who, according to their predictions, will have his work cut out to retain his belts.

Boxing correspondent David Anderson is the most positive for Joshua and predicts an upset in the WBC title fight between Wilder and Tyson Fury.

WBA: Anthony Joshua
WBO: Anthony Joshua
WBC: Tyson Fury
IBF: Anthony Joshua

Anderson said: "I believe Anthony Joshua will still be the WBA Super, IBF and WBO heavyweight champ. Who will hold the WBC title is intriguing with Deontay Wilder facing Tyson Fury in their rematch in February.

"I’m going to be patriotic and say the Gypsy King will add the WBC crown to his list of titles. He showed he can take Wilder’s best shots and I think he can outbox him again."

Mirror editor Martin Domin, meanwhile, predicts that Joshua will fall against Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk later in the year.

WBA: Oleskandr Usyk
WBO: Oleskandr Usyk
WBC: Deontay Wilder
IBF: Oleksandr Usyk

Domin said: "Anthony Joshua will find a way to keep hold of both the IBF and WBO belts and see off Kubrat Pulev in the spring. Oleksandr Usyk will win in the meantime before beating Joshua later in 2020.

"Tyson Fury may beat Deontay Wilder once, but I don't see him doing it again."

Sports writer Rich Jones predicts a more mixed year for Joshua that he believes will end with a tasty match up with fellow Brit Dillian Whyte.

WBA: Anthony Joshua
WBO: Oleksandr Usyk
WBC: Deontay Wilder
IBF: Anthony Joshua

Jones said: "I think Wilder beats Fury in their rematch, whilst Joshua vacates the WBO, which is then won by Usyk.

"I then expect Joshua to retain the IBF vs Pulev before failing to make a unification bout and taking on someone else, most likely Dillian Whyte, in late 2020."

Whatever the results, one thing is for sure - we're in for a cracker of a year in 2020!
