As we come to the end of 2019, one thing that has grown in popularity as the months have gone by is the idea of crossover sports.

Of course way back in 2017 we had Conor McGregor swapping the Octagon for the boxing ring to face Floyd Mayweather, but this year has seen even more huge talk emerge with regards to athletes swapping sports.

We've had Khabib Nurmagomedov looking at boxing Mayweather, we've had YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul take to the ring for a professional bout in America, and we've had Tyson Fury enter the world of WWE.

That's not all though. Even more recently the Gypsy King himself has talked up a move to MMA in the near future, wanting to take on all the heavyweights currently in the UFC.

One more potential feud that has emerged in recent months is Jorge Masvidal vs Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Masvidal has burst onto the scene in 2019 and topped off his year by defeating Nate Diaz for the Baddest Mother****r title at UFC 244 in November.

However, staying in the UFC is clearly not the only thing on his agenda as he's previously stated he wants to fight Canelo in a boxing ring.

Speaking at the press conference after UFC 244, Masvidal said: "If Canelo wants to get his ass kicked, that’s a fight I’ll take."

Not only that, he's also claimed he's 10x the athlete the Mexican boxer is, stating: “I consider myself 10 times the athlete [Canelo] is just because of MMA in general.

“All the strength, speed and power you have to generate – to throw one kick is like throwing 10 right hands."

Finally, Canelo has got a response for Masvidal to the challenge set to him, and it seems like he's game for the competition.

Speaking to TMZ, Canelo was asked about potentially fighting the UFC champ in the ring, to which he replied with: "For business, why not?!"

Could we really see Canelo vs Masvidal in 2020?
