Rangers will be hoping to close the gap on high flyers Celtic to two points with a game in hand when they travel to Celtic Park tomorrow afternoon. The last meeting between the pair was just under three weeks ago with the table toppers coming out on top in the Scottish League Cup final, winning 1-0.It was Celtic’s second win over Rangers this season after beating them 2-0 in the league back in September. And for Gers’ boss Steven Gerrard, he’s had largely unhappy memories against Celtic but will be looking for revenge tomorrow. The 39-year-old is no stranger to big derby days from his time at Liverpool and the Rangers boss was asked to compare tomorrow’s clash to the rivalry his former club face with Manchester United.

Gerrard went on to answer the question but couldn’t hold himself back from taking a dig at his former foes in the process.

Speaking in a press conference, Gerrard said: “There are many similarities but it’s not necessarily a derby match as it’s Liverpool v Manchester.

“The rivalry comes from being the two most successful teams in England so that’s a similarity to the Old Firm.

“I think the Liverpool v Everton derby match is more similar in terms of the bitterness, the hatred and the bragging rights in the local community.

“Manchester’s 40 minutes to an hour away and obviously Manchester United are not at the top of the table anymore so that’s another difference for you.”

United sit seventh and have struggled to battle at the top for a couple of years now.

As for Liverpool, it’s a completely different story as they find themselves 13 points clear and on course to clinch their first ever Premier League title.
