Liverpool just need to keep their composure and a maiden Premier League trophy is all theirs.

The Reds have made a historic start to the season with 17 wins from 18 matches and - assuming they avoid defeat to Wolves and Sheffield United - will go an entire year unbeaten in the league.

And their rivals have been doing them plenty of favours. Manchester City have left the door wide open after blowing a 2-0 lead at Molineux, allowing Liverpool to maintain their 13-point lead.

Their next closest challengers are Leicester City, but not only have Liverpool already completed the double over them, they also dished out a humiliating 4-0 defeat in front of their own crowd.

We're not finished yet. Due to their excursion to the FIFA Club World Cup, the Reds still have a game in hand against strugglers West Ham and can duly extend their lead to 16 points.

Liverpool's mind-blowing start

Bearing that in mind, we want Liverpool fans to touch their nearest wooden item because we're going to start getting hypothetical and paranoid supporters might think we're jinxing things.

But it's hard not to imagine the possibilities when Liverpool have made such an incredible start that people, including Thierry Henry, are starting to compare them to Arsenal's 'Invincibles.'

Besides, Liverpool are well on course to go the season unbeaten and having gone 35 games without defeat, they could even surpass Arsenal's marker of 49 perfect matches.

Liverpool are destroying the 'Invincibles'

However, let's get more specific and see exactly how that famous 2003/04 Arsenal side was performing at the same point of the season as this contemporary Liverpool team.

First and foremost, Liverpool have more points to their name (52) after drawing just a single game, compared to the Gunners (41) who had already tied five fixtures by this point.

Arsene Wenger's men were lucky to escape with a 0-0 away at Manchester United, while they also failed to grab three points against Portsmouth, Charlton, Fulham and Leicester.

Liverpool have even been better in front of goal. They've notched up 46 strikes in their first 18 games, as opposed to the 34 of the 'Invincibles', and have a stronger goal difference by 10.

But what about their leads at the top? Well, that's where things get really interesting, because Arsenal were actually in second place at the same point Liverpool are now 13 points clear.

And if Liverpool win their game in hand, their projected final points tally will be a mind-blowing 110, which absolutely annihilates the 90 that Arsenal managed 15 years ago.

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

If there are any Liverpool fans who are buried behind their four-leaf clovers and lucky rabbit's feet, fear not, you're going to win the Premier League. I promise.

When you're obliterating the form of the only team to ever go an entire season unbeaten, you can rest assured that even a complete meltdown would see you end up with the title.

But can they go the whole season without defeat? I'm unsure.

The Champions League has proven over the last two seasons that Liverpool are beatable and I feel certain that the trip to the Etihad Stadium will catch them out once again.

Considering Pep Guardiola's men have already surrendered their league title, I can see them throwing the kitchen at that April 4 fixture to salvage some semblance of pride.

For the record, that would end Liverpool's unbeaten run at 48 games... yup, seriously, you couldn't write it.
