Serge Aurier scores comedy own goal during Norwich vs Tottenham

Norwich vs Tottenham was pretty bonkers.

The home side thought they had gone 2-0 ahead in the first-half but VAR controversially disallowed Teemu Pukki’s strike after Mario Vrancic had given them an early lead.

Jose Mourinho made two substitutions at half-time, bringing on Lucas Moura and Davinson Sanchez.

And when they equalised in the 55th-minute thanks to Christian Eriksen’s beautiful free-kick, there appeared to only be one winner.

However, just six minutes after Eriksen’s equaliser, Norwich retook the lead in bizarre circumstances.

Pukki was played through and looked set to score. But he stuttered with the ball, allowing Toby Alderweireld the chance to get back and tackle.

However, his attempted tackle only hit Serge Aurier and went into the back of the net in a freak own goal.

It was the slice of luck Norwich deserved after the VAR incident.

However, the Canaries couldn’t hold on for a much-needed win.

With just minutes remaining, Harry Kane was brought down in the penalty area and the Spurs striker picked himself up to score past Tim Krul.

A draw against Spurs should be considered a decent point for Norwich – especially coming 48 hours after their 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.

However, when you lead 1-0 and 2-1 in a game and have a goal very harshly disallowed by VAR for offside, Daniel Farke will no doubt feel a little aggrieved.

The point means Norwich remain bottom and are now three points behind 19th-placed Watford – who beat Villa earlier in the day.

They’re six points from safety and are in real danger of being cut adrift.
