Ladies and gentlemen, the dawning of a new decade is nearly upon us.
Before we say hello to the shiny new '20's however, it would be a shame not to remember what has been a spectacular ten year chapter in the world of football.

The last month has been packed with pundits, journalists and former players naming their teams and moments of the decade as nostalgia gripped the football world. It really has been a joyous month being reminded of some of the unforgettable moments that have unfolded before our eyes.

Now, player-turned-pundit Peter Crouch has waded into the conversation, naming his pick for the goal of the decade.

Speaking in his column for the Daily Mail, Crouch recounted some of his favourite moments before eventually picking Gareth Bale's overhead kick v Liverpool as the best goal scored in the last ten years.

With the 2018 Champions League final locked at 1-1, Bale stormed onto the pitch to take the game by the scruff of the neck and win it for Real Madrid.

His majestic bicycle kick effectively killed the clash off and it is no surprise at all that Crouch has picked the Welshman's unforgettable strike.

In truth, Bale's strike really doesn't get the credit it deserves.

It was an unbelievable bit of skill on the biggest stage in club football and spurred Madrid on to clinch their 13th European Cup.

"It was nice to see that all those lessons I gave Gareth about overhead kicks when we were together at Tottenham eventually paid off," said Crouch.

"To do what he did in a Champions League final, minutes after coming on, was just insane. What a goal."

Liverpool were visibly deflated in the aftermath and simply had no response, falling to a painful defeat.

He then went on to name Lionel Messi's unstoppable run from 60 yards against Athletic Bilbao and Olivier Giroud's mad scorpion kick as the second and third best finishes of the decade.

It is hard to imagine that we could see anything better in the next ten year chapter, but you just now there will be plenty of jaw dropping moments.

They really promise to be something incredibly special and we simply can't wait.
