Arsenal fans will be all too happy to see the back of 2019.

After a frightfully fruitless year packed full of disappointing false dawns, 2020 finally promises to be a year of turn-around for the north London club.

The tumultuous reign of Unai Emery is over and the hope of new glories is slowly being refreshed under exciting new boss Mikel Arteta.

The Spaniard will be under no illusions as to the task at hand, though.

Arsenal are 11th in the league - mainly due to one of the leakiest defences of the decade - and fans will know there is simply no quick fix.

A positive result over Chelsea today would be a good way to get the faithful onside and Arteta has been on a mission to say all the right things in the build-up to the London derby.

However, there are few opposition fans who might take exception to Arteta's claim that Arsenal are 'the biggest club in England'.

Speaking ahead of the massive clash with Chelsea, Arteta made the questionable statement, claiming that Arsenal need to be arrogant because of their station as the biggest team in the land.

"We are the biggest football club in England and we have to play a little bit with that arrogance, that belief.

"This stadium has to create fear again."

The atmosphere at the Emirates has grown increasingly toxic over the last few months as large swathes of the fanbase fell out of love with the team.

The need to nurture a healthy relationship between team and fan has never been greater and Arteta will be desperate to give the fans something to cheer about.

However, with Liverpool gallivanting around the world picking up trophies at will and Manchester City dominating the domestic scene, there are more than a few who disagree with his 'biggest club' quip.

GIVEMESPORT's Paul Conolly says:

Disagree - Arsenal are a big club for sure but, at the moment, nowhere near the biggest.

The Gunners just arent the powerhouse they used to be during the Arsene Wenger glory years.

Since they swapped their spiritual home Highbury for the Emirates, things just haven't quite been the same.

The club has been in a steady decline for years now and Arteta faces a herculean task to right the ship and recreate those heady Highbury days.

I like that Arsenal have gambled though and that Arteta is expected to be given all the time he needs

The Gunners need a project - a la Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool - and Arteta could be the man to deliver just that.

It could well take a few years but maybe, just maybe, at some point in the not so distant future, Arteta will be able to make this claim again and it will really be true.
