VAR has hardly covered itself in glory this weekend.

On Saturday alone, three different goals were ruled out for the most marginal of offsides.

The technology came to Liverpool's rescue against Wolves, however, after Sadio Mane's opener was initially ruled out for an alleged Adam Lallana handball in the build-up.

There was further controversy over the referee had already blown the whistle before the ball was in the net.

Wolves weren't down in the dumps for long, though - Pedro Neto thought thought he'd equalised right on the stroke of half-time and cupped his ears to the Anfield crowd.

Yet to the disbelief of everyone watching, VAR then intervened AGAIN - and ruled his strike out for one of the most absurd offsides you'll ever see.

Nuno was understandably furious. Somewhere across the north-west, you get the feeling Pep Guardiola will be feeling even more exasperated too. 

If Norwich, Brighton and Crystal Palace felt they were robbed yesterday, then Wolves have every right to be seething.

Even advocates of the technology are surely running out of ways to defend it. 

This is simply not what VAR was invented for.

It is sucking the life out of the game we love week on week and is quickly becoming indefensible.
