Enough was enough for West Ham's owners on Saturday evening.Going into their game against Leicester City, the Hammers had lost six of their last seven Premier League games. They had a good opportunity to end their poor form against a Leicester side that made wholesale changes for their trip to the Olympic Stadium. But West Ham fell to a 2-1 defeat. Shortly after the result, Manuel Pellegrini lost his job.And the club have wasted no time in choosing his successor.

David Moyes had been on the radar of the east London club for some time. He was the 'hot favourite' to be appointed their new boss following Pellegrini's departure.

And now the east London club have confirmed that the Scotsman has returned to the club for his second stint as boss.

“It’s fabulous to be back,” said Moyes. “It feels great to be home. I’ve missed being here because I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed being around the stadium and I loved being in this part of the world and I missed the Club, so I can’t wait to get started.

“I'm feeling very proud that I’m back here at West Ham. But I think more importantly I’ll be looking to see what I can do and what I can make improvements to, how we can get some wins with the players and how we can get some quick wins on the field as well.

“I do believe that the squad of players I’ve got here is a better squad of players than when I took over before, so I am looking forward to working with them.”

“I think there’s got to be a short-term goal for us just now to get the wins to get us away from the wrong end of the league and what we’re going to do over the next six months, then what we’re going to do over the next period as well. The start is really focusing on the immediate games.”

Moyes has been handed an initial 18-month contract.

The Mirror report that West Ham decided on re-hiring Moyes because he knows the club and they do not want to take any risks with the club’s Premier League future on the line.

Moyes managed the club for seven months from December 2017 - May 2018, where he was able to guide them to Premier League safety.

West Ham were in the relegation zone when he took over in 2017. But he was able to steady the ship and the club finished the season in a respectable 13th position.

During that time, Moyes took charge of 31 games, with West Ham emerging victorious on nine occasions.

Moyes now takes over with West Ham in a similar position as they were during his first stint.

West Ham have enough quality in the side. Felipe Anderson, Andriy Yarmolenko, Declan Rice and Sebastian Haller would get into most Premier League starting XIs.

But, they have fallen badly after a good start.

Following their loss against Leicester, they are now just one-point above the relegation zone.

With the club stuttering badly, it's clear that a change needed to be made.

But is Moyes the right man to take over? He has had mixed success earlier on in his career.

He was a big hit at Everton but then failed at Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

The 56-year-old even oversaw the latter's relegation from the Premier League.

But he was able to prevent West Ham dropping to the Championship in 2018.

He certainly has the tools at his disposal needed for the Hammers to stay up. Only time will tell whether he's able to make use of them.
