European football in 2019 is over - and what an incredible year it has been.

Manchester City, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern Munich lifted league titles in the top-five leagues.

Meanwhile, the 2018/19 Champions League campaign will always be remembered for two incredible semi-final comeback victories with Liverpool stunning Barcelona and Tottenham shocking Ajax.

Liverpool went on to lift the trophy for a sixth time in Madrid.

We know who the most successful clubs have been in 2019 but who have been the most successful goalscorers?

Now that the matches have finished for the year, GIVEMESPORT have decided to look at the top 25 goalscorers this calendar year.

We’ve looked at the top 10 leagues in European football and we’re only counting league goals, national cups and European competitions. Therefore, we’re not taking international goals into account.

Here is the top 25:

25 | Romelu Lukaku | Inter Milan | Appearances: 44 | Goals: 22

Lukaku swapped Manchester United for Inter Milan in the summer and is flying in Italy. He’s scored 14 goals in 22 appearances for the San Siro side since his move.

24 | Junior Moraes | Shakhtar Donetsk | Appearances: 31 | Goals: 22

Shakhtar have dominated the Ukrainian league in 2019 and Moraes has notched 15 goals in 16 league games this season.

23 | Harry Kane | Tottenham | Appearances: 36 | Goals: 23

Another brilliant year of goalscoring for Kane. He didn’t manage one in the Champions League final in Madrid and suffered a few injury problems this calendar year. But he’ll be satisfied with 23 in 36 appearances for Spurs.

22 | Vedat Muriqi | Fenerbahce | Appearances: 34 | Goals: 23

Vedat Muriqi was a star for Caykur Rizespor during the 2018/19 campaign, scoring 17 goals in the league. He was snapped up by Fenerbahce and has carried on that form with 11 goals in all competitions this season.

21 | Duvan Zapata | Atalanta | Appearances: 32 | Goals: 23

Zapata is the star in this impressive Atalanta side. Injuries have limited his game-time this season but he managed 23 goals in 37 appearances last season, adding a further six this campaign.

20 | Papiss Cisse | Alanyaspor | Appearances: 31 | Goals: 23

Remember him? The 34-year-old is still banging in the goals in Turkey and has scored nine in 12 in the Super Lig this season.

19 | Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | Appearances: 47 | Goals: 24

Not the most prolific year by Salah’s very high standards but the Egyptian still managed 24 goals - including one in the Champions League final.

18 | Moussa Dembele | Lyon | Appearances: 51 | Goals: 24

The former Fulham and Celtic striker is banging in the goals for Lyon in France and could well be making another big move in the coming years.

This season, he’s scored nine in 12 Ligue 1 matches.

17 | Cristiano Ronaldo | Juventus | Appearances: 38 | Goals: 24

2019 was the worst goalscoring year of the decade for Cristiano Ronaldo. He did help fire Juve to a league title, though.

He’s managed 12 in 21 matches this season but there are signs that the 34-year-old is becoming less prolific.

16 | Haris Seferovic | Benfica | Appearances: 45 | Goals: 24

Seferovic has been on fire this season, scoring 23 goals in 29 appearances in the league for Benfica.

15 | Pizzi | Benfica | Appearances: 50 | Goals: 25

Seferovic’s teammate Pizzi has scored one more goal than him, notching 19 in 23 appearances this campaign.

14 | Luis Suarez | Barcelona | Appearances: 49 | Goals: 27

Suarez turns 33 in January but he’s still banging in the goals. The Uruguayan has scored 10 in 16 for Barca this season.

13 | Ciro Immobile | Lazio | Appearances: 43 | Goals: 27

Immobile has scored a ridiculous 19 goals in 18 matches this season as Lazio sit third in Serie A.

12 | Sadio Mane | Liverpool | Appearances: 49 | Goals: 29

What a 2019 it was for Sadio Mane. He’s arguably become Liverpool’s main man and looks set to fire them to Premier League glory this season.

11 | Bruno Fernandes | Sporting | Appearances: 44 | Goals: 29

Fernandes was heavily linked with a big move in the summer but stayed at Lisbon. The midfielder scored a total of 31 goals during the 2018/19 season and has already scored 13 this time around.

Surely a big move beckons for the Portuguese.

10 | Wissam Ben Yedder | Monaco | Appearances: 45 | Goals: 29

2019 saw Ben Yedder move from Sevilla to Monaco but continue scoring throughout the calendar year.

He’s managed 11 in 14 matches in France so far this season.

9 | Timo Werner | RB Leipzig | Appearances: 41 | Goals: 29

The 23-year-old has scored 18 goals in 16 Bundesliga matches this season and looks set for a big move in the summer.

8 | Jamie Vardy | Leicester | Appearances: 37 | Goals: 29

Vardy has been incredible since Brendan Rodgers took over at Leicester.

This season, he’s scored 17 in 18 as Leicester attempt to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

7 | Sergio Aguero | Manchester City | Appearances: 41 | Goals: 30

Since signing for Man City, Aguero has hit at least 20 Premier League goals in six seasons out of eight - including his last five.

Despite entering his thirties, he shows no signs of slowing down.

6 | Raheem Sterling | Manchester City | Appearances: 50 | Goals: 31

Raheem Sterling just pips his teammate Aguero by a solitary goal. He’s started this season on fire with 20 goals in 27 games.

5 | Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang | Arsenal | Appearances: 50 | Goals: 31

Considering Arsenal’s struggles in 2019, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang deserves a lot of credit for reaching 31 goals for the club.

He shared the Premier League Golden Boot last season with Salah and Mane and is hunting down Vardy in the charts this season.

4 | Karim Benzema | Real Madrid | Appearances: 50 | Goals: 35

Karim Benzema appears to be flourishing at Real Madrid without Ronaldo. The Frenchman may have just turned 32 but he still knows where the back of the net is.

3 | Kylian Mbappe | PSG | Appearances: 40 | Goals: 39

A 21-year-old scoring 39 goals in 40 appearances. Well played, Kylian Mbappe.

He finished last season with 33 goals in 29 Ligue 1 and has 18 in 19 in all competitions this season.

You’d imagine Mbappe will be in the top three of this list for many years to come.

2 | Lionel Messi | Barcelona | Appearances: 48 | Goals: 45

The GOAT has to settle for second place with *only* 45 in 48 matches in 2019.

He may be 32 but Messi is still finding goalscoring incredibly easy.

1 | Robert Lewandowski | Bayern Munich | Appearances: 47 | Goals: 48

Robert Lewandowski, take a bow.

The Pole scored a crazy 48 goals in 47 matches for Bayern in 2019.

This season alone, he’s bagged 30 in 25 games.

The best No.9 in world football.

So, there we have the top 25 goalscorers in 2019 in Europe.

As you’d expect, there are all the familiar names - but perhaps not always where you’d expect them to be.

Ronaldo may be feeling his age slightly and finds himself in 17th. While Messi doesn’t make top-spot despite scoring 45 goals.

But perhaps the two most impressive figures are the 39 goals in 40 games scored by Mbappe at the age of 21.

Then there’s Lewandowski.

The Bayern striker has been in incredible form this calendar year with more than a goal every game at the very highest level.

Take a bow, Lewa.
