European football in 2019 is over - and what an incredible year it has been.

Manchester City, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern Munich lifted league titles in the top-five leagues.

Meanwhile, the 2018/19 Champions League campaign will always be remembered for two incredible semi-final comeback victories with Liverpool stunning Barcelona and Tottenham shocking Ajax.

Liverpool went on to lift the trophy for a sixth time in Madrid.

We know who the most successful clubs have been in 2019 but who have been the most successful goalscorers?

Now that the matches have finished for the year, GIVEMESPORT have decided to look at the top 25 goalscorers this calendar year.

We’ve looked at the top 10 leagues in European football and we’re only counting league goals, national cups and European competitions. Therefore, we’re not taking international goals into account.

If goals are level, we've taken minutes-per-goal into account.

FBL-FRA-LIGUE1-LYON-RENNES

17 | Cristiano Ronaldo | Juventus | Appearances: 38 | Goals: 24

2019 was the worst goalscoring year of the decade for Cristiano Ronaldo. He did help fire Juve to a league title, though.

He’s managed 12 in 21 matches this season but there are signs that the 34-year-old is becoming less prolific.

FBL-KSA-ITA-JUVENTUS-LAZIO

Fernandes was heavily linked with a big move in the summer but stayed at Lisbon. The midfielder scored a total of 31 goals during the 2018/19 season and has already scored 13 this time around.

Surely a big move beckons for the Portuguese.

FBL-EUR-C3-SPORTING-EINDHOVEN

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester City - Premier League

5 | Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang | Arsenal | Appearances: 50 | Goals: 31

Considering Arsenal’s struggles in 2019, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang deserves a lot of credit for reaching 31 goals for the club.

FBL-ENG-PR-BOURNEMOUTH-ARSENAL

4 | Karim Benzema | Real Madrid | Appearances: 50 | Goals: 35

The best No.9 in world football.

TOPSHOT-FBL-EUR-C1-BELGRADE-BAYERN-MUNICH

So, there we have the top 25 goalscorers in 2019 in Europe.

As you’d expect, there are all the familiar names - but perhaps not always where you’d expect them to be.

Ronaldo may be feeling his age slightly and finds himself in 17th. While Messi doesn’t make top-spot despite scoring 45 goals.

But perhaps the two most impressive figures are the 39 goals in 40 games scored by Mbappe at the age of 21.

Then there’s Lewandowski.

The Bayern striker has been in incredible form this calendar year with more than a goal every game at the very highest level.

Take a bow, Lewa.
