Former F1 driver and current Sky 1 commentator Martin Brundle has revealed that he believes that Sebastian Vettel's best years are behind him, but that he wouldn't count him out just yet.

Vettel achieved an incredible level of success at the start of the decade, collecting 38 wins and four successive world championships during his six-year tenure with Red Bull Racing.

Since his monumental switch to Ferrari in 2015, the 32-year-old has remained a front-runner but is yet to have swept any titles under his belt.

While Vettel is certainly not entirely to blame for this, alongside multiple examples of technical inability by Ferrari to counter the Mercedes squad in recent years, the German himself has made several mistakes which have squandered his title hopes.

In a podcast for 'The Collecting Cars', as per F1i, Brundle insisted that Vettel still enjoys a blazing fast pace, but that his best years are definitely behind him.

"You can't take anything away from him. What I think he's always had, is somehow a lack of judgement in wheel-to-wheel combat, and it's showing up more and more as he gets older.

"He's still got the speed. Some of his qualy laps are outstanding, just lightening fast.

I think he's got the pace, you wouldn't race him off, and you wouldn't change him in a hurry for an unknown, but his best is behind him.

Brundle was sure to add, however, that Vettel's tumbling momentum doesn't take anything away from his much-loved personality.

"I like Seb a lot. He's a big motorbike man as well. He keeps it all very quiet but he's got a fantastic collection of classic motorbikes.

"He's an adult, he won't be playing play station all night long."

Only time will tell whether Brundle's beliefs come true.
