We are just a few short weeks away from the return of the biggest star in the MMA game.

He's been away since October 2018, but Conor McGregor will finally return to the Octagon on January 18.

McGregor will step up to the 170-pound division to fight the man with the most finishes in UFC history - Donald Cerrone - and he knows that a win against 'Cowboy' could lead to bigger things.

A rematch with his nemesis Khabib Nurmagomedov is in his sights, but many believe the same outcome would occur - with McGregor on the mat tapping out like he did over 12 months ago.

Khabib also has an important fight to be building towards, as he finally defends the Lightweight Championship against Tony Ferguson in April.

There's no guarantee he gets through that, but whether he has the title or not, Khabib is a wanted man and it's the Notorious that's hunting him.

If Conor doesn't get the rematch he desires, there's another man who he would like to go toe-to-toe with inside the Octagon - and that's Jorge Masvidal.

'Gamebred' took apart Nate Diaz to capture the Baddest Motherf**ker Title in 2019, and of course McGregor would love to take that accolade away from him - not that UFC President Dana White is a massive fan of the idea.

“Conor has this idea, too, that if things don’t go his way and he [doesn’t] get the fight [with Khabib], he’ll have had a 170 fight in his pocket again and [is] considering a [Jorge] Masvidal fight,” White told ESPN.

“I think everybody knows what I think about it. I think it’s a bad idea.”

“Conor gets p**sed off when I say it’s a bad idea, and he’s like, ‘You think I can’t beat Masvidal?’ I’m not saying you can’t beat Masvidal.

"Anybody can beat anybody on any given day, but why? Why go after that fight when you could possibly just wait?

“Conor wants that belt from Masvidal. I did it as a one off and like I said, it was fun. It was awesome. We’ll see what happens.”

Dana White doesn't seemingly want it, but millions of fans around the world probably want to see it.

If the Khabib rematch can't be made, then there's so much money to be made by making McGregor v Masvidal - let's hope something can be sorted later this year!
