2019 has come to an end and what a year it was in the Premier League.

We all witnessed an epic title battle to end the 2018/19 season, which Manchester City won by the narrowest of margins over Liverpool.

But the Reds have a massive advantage this campaign, currently possessing a 13-point lead at the top of the table.

There were so many standout performers last year, notably Kevin De Bruyne.

The Belgian playmaker has been on fire for Man City over the past 12 months and it's no surprise that he gets in the statistical Premier League Team of the Year for 2019.

But who else joins him?

WhoScored.com have crunched the numbers and revealed the Team of the Year based on statistics.

GK: Lukasz Fabianski - 6.97

West Ham haven't had a lot to shout about in 2019, but it can be said they would have fared much worse without Fabianski in goal.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7.49

Alexander-Arnold emerged into one of the best defenders in the world during 2019.

He registered 17 Premier League assists over the course of the year; a ridiculous total for a right-back.

CB: Joel Matip - 7.39

Matip's inclusion in the team may be a surprise to some but he was arguably outshining Virgil van Dijk before his injury earlier this season.

CB: Virgil van Dijk - 7.40

The best defender in the world. He was dribbled past just three times in 37 Premier League games last year.

LB: Lucas Digne - 7.21

Many think Andy Robertson is the best left-back in the world but, statistically, he wasn't even the best left-back on Merseyside last year.

Digne played a part in six Premier League goals during 2019.

RM: Raheem Sterling - 7.51

Sterling enjoyed another superb 2019 under Pep Guardiola's influence.

The Englishman netted 19 times and recorded five assists in the Premier League last year.

CM: James Maddison - 7.38

Maddison is set to become a key player for England over the 2020s.

He had a hand in 14 goals during 2019.

CM: Kevin De Bruyne - 7.72

The Belgian midfielder produced some insane numbers this year.

Eight goals. 14 assists. Eight Man of the March awards from WhoScored.com. Man City are well behind in the race for the title but they wouldn't even be in the top four without De Bruyne.

Statistically, he was by far the best Premier League player in 2019.

LM: Sadio Mane - 7.54

Mane was arguably Liverpool's best performer in 2019.

He scored 24 times last year (the second most among Premier League players) and also chipped in with six assists.

ST: Jamie Vardy - 7.29

Vardy is still a nightmare for opposition defenders despite turning 33 years old in just over a week.

He scored 29 times for Leicester in 2019. What a year it was for him.

ST: Sergio Aguero - 7.30

Aguero just continues to score goals.

He netted 22 times in 32 games last year and had the best goal-to-minutes ratio in the league (one every 100.9 minutes).

Unsurprisingly, the team is dominated by Liverpool and Manchester City players.

But there are still a few notable omissions.

Fabianski has been superb for West Ham this year and ousts Alisson Becker, who many regard to be the world's best goalkeeper.

Andy Robertson also doesn't make it in the side, with Digne being marginally better.

And there's no place for Mohamed Salah, who scored 18 Premier League goals in 2019.
