Liverpool fans might not want to say it out loud just yet, but the Reds are surely just months away from finally ending their painful Premier League duck.

2020 could finally be the year that an Anfield skipper gets his hands on what has become the holy grail of silverware for Kopites, 30 long years since Alan Hansen last lifted a domestic title.

Jurgen Klopp's juggernaut is waltzing towards the title but they have a few more hurdles to overcome before they can crack the champagne and book the open-top bus.

The highest of these barriers is undoubtedly the clubs early year hoodoo - a bizarre phenomenon that has categorised Klopp's tenure at Anfield.

In fact, Liverpool have won just 12 of their last 29 games played in January and February under the tutelage of the bespectacled German.

Last season the Reds dropped nine points during that opening two month period of the calendar year - more than half of their total points dropped throughout the entire season.

In a season that was ultimately decided by a single, miserable point, there can be no doubting that Liverpool's slip at the turn of the year cost them dearly.

The season before they enjoyed a decent start to the year but in 2016/17, they managed just the one win out of seven.

It is a trend that simply has to come to an end if the Reds are to finally fulfil decades worth of 'It's our year' prophecies.

The Anfield faithful will certainly be nervy though, as tricky fixtures against Sheffield United, Manchester United, Tottenham, Wolves and West Ham lie in wait.

February promises a slightly smoother ride though with relegation battlers Southampton, Norwich and Watford all set to face the European champions.

Should the Reds greet the leap year with their formidable lead still intact then it's difficult to see anyone catching Klopp's side.

2020 promises to be quite a year for the Reds -  you might want to whisper it, but, it really could be their year.
