This year marks half a decade since Nani left Manchester United for Fenerbahce.

The winger, who now plays for Orlando City, departed Old Trafford in 2015 after eight years at the club.

During that time, he helped the Manchester side to four Premier League titles, two League Cups and to Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup glory in 2008.

Currently playing his football in America, Nani is enjoying the off-season as the MLS returns next month.

The break has given the Portuguese time to reflect on a senior career, including all those years he spent in England.

And after embarking on a new year, Nani looked back on what life was like at Man United during that time of year.

The 33-year-old spent most of his time at Old Trafford playing under Sir Alex Ferguson, a manager renowned for prioritising discipline amongst his players.

However, when it came to New Year, he was very much up for the occasion and even let his players turn up to training drunk on New Year's Eve, according to Nani.

Speaking to Portuguese outfit Tribuna Expresso, Nani said: "On New Year, we could even go to training drunk and the coach didn't care about it.

“That's the side of [Sir Alex] that knew how to deal with the players and have the perception to say 'this day is special, I can't make demands'.

"We had been playing non-stop all year long. If one day Wes Brown gets drunk, what are we going to do? It was a joy, a moment of relaxation, a different kind of training - clowning around.

"I won't lie, I liked nights out. But now I avoid them because to be able to play at the highest level you have to drop the nights out and know the right time to enjoy yourself. That is basically what I do."

The feeling in the United camp on New Year’s Day was less upbeat this year though as they suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Arsenal as they remain fifth, five points off the top four.

As for Nani, his break continues until the end of February when his Orlando City side welcome Real Salt Lake in their season opener.
