As the great Aidy Boothroyd once said, the fat lady isn't singing just yet, but she's clearing her throat.

The scratching sound of 'LIVERPOOL 2019/20' being needled onto the Premier League trophy was almost audible as Jurgen Klopp's men picked apart Sheffield United at Anfield.

Mo Salah and Sadio Mane both made their way through the third-best defence in the league and the best outside the top two.

Every aspect of the Reds' game was spot on. They completed close to 900 passes, enjoyed 75% possession and had 19 attempts to the Blades' three.

We ought not to take this kind of performance for granted, even if we are almost certainly watching the future champions.

It has long been accepted, not least by Manchester City, that the three-decade wait for a Premier League crown on Merseyside is going to be over come the end of the season.

In fact, the celebrations could begin much sooner than that.

If the current rate that Liverpool and their closest rivals (Leicester City and Manchester City) have been picking up points continues, Jurgen Klopp's side will be champions by the weekend of March 14/15, per Nick Harris (@sportingintel)

The fixture that weekend? The Merseyside derby against Everton. Away. At Goodison Park. It doesn't get any better than that.

That would smash the earliest title win record by a month. The earliest a team has ever won the Premier League was on April 14, 2001; Manchester United's 4-2 win over Coventry City - combined with Arsenal's defeat to Middlesbrough - handed the Red Devils the league with five games to spare.

No team has ever matched that. Should Liverpool pull the feat off in the Toffees' backyard, they would still have eight games of the season left to play.

Should there be any slip-ups along the way - and let's not forget Klopp's men have dropped points in just ONE game all season, a 1-1 draw with Manchester United - there could also be the tantalising prospect of winning it against City a fortnight later at the Etihad.

Potential 'Invincibles', the best start any team has ever made to a season - there's nothing more left to say about this Liverpool team.

It is only right that they could smash their way into the history books on the way to number 19.
