The sky is the limit for Trent Alexander-Arnold.The 21-year-old is arguably the best right-back in the world right now.He has 10 assists in 29 appearances this season and is setting new standards for the position. The Liverpool player shone in the 4-0 win over Leicester City on Boxing Day with two assists and a goal and while he didn’t add to his tally in Thursday’s 2-0 win against Sheffield United, there were still some delightful moments. They include a pass that, quite frankly, was absurd.

In the first half, Alexander-Arnold played the ball to Andy Robertson with such confidence that it belies belief.

It was a dangerous pass to make, with Liverpool penned in their own half, but the England international pulled it off with the outside of his right boot, sweeping the ball to the left-back.

That’s remarkable, Trent.

“How he pulled this pass off I’ll never know,” wrote one Liverpool fan on Twitter.

It’s safe to say that Liverpool fans were impressed and it’s easy to see why.

Alexander-Arnold is being driven by his battle with Robertson to record the most assists each season.

“That is the way we are, we are competitive within ourselves,” he told BT Sport after Thursday’s win.

“We have a competition to see who can get the most assists and it pushes ourselves.

“At the end of the season, one gets the bragging rights and one doesn't. He can nick two or three assists in any given game.”

As part of arguably the finest full-back pairing in the game, the Liverpool academy product is determined to change the way the full-back position is viewed.

“As a pair, we want to change the way the position was previously thought about," he added.

"There was the famous saying, 'Nobody wants to grow up to be a Gary Neville'.

But we want to change that and bring a different way of thinking of a full-back.

Alexander-Arnold is certainly on course to do that.
