WrestleMania 36 is only a couple of months away and since we're now in the new year, the road to WrestleMania can begin. However, only a few matches have been locked in for the big show.

WWE will officially begin the road to WrestleMania at the end of the month at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on January 26.

By the end of the Royal Rumble, we should have an idea for at least two matches at WrestleMania 36 which will include the winner of the men's and women's Royal Rumble matches.

However, according to WrestleVotes, a WWE source who has been with the company for more than 10 years has told them they can't remember a January where so little of the WrestleMania card has been decided upon.

WrestleVotes added as well that the feeling is that this is a refreshing decision for WWE as it keeps multiple options open for the card, but it's also frustrating at the same time.

There have been multiple rumors regarding matches at WrestleMania 36, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

One of the top matches rumoured for the card is 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt vs Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. Reigns is one of the favourites to win the men's Royal Rumble match.

Brock Lesnar is also expected to still be WWE Champion when WrestleMania comes around, but there is nothing to the rumours he'll be defending the title vs either Tyson Fury or Cain Velasquez.

There's been no indication as to what direction WWE could go in for their women's titles. Charlotte Flair has already declared for the women's Royal Rumble, and she will be considered one of the faovourites to challenge for the Raw or SmackDown Women's titles at WrestleMania.

NXT is expected to have a big presence at WrestleMania as well. 10 men and 10 women from NXT are expected to be in men's and women's Royal Rumble matches respectively later this month.

While some fans might not be happy that WWE's biggest show of the year doesn't have any direction yet, the lack of clarity should make Raw, SmackDown, and NXT compelling to watch over the next couple of weeks, and possibly months to come.
